That is where a CAT 2, Pat's Easy Change would come in. All of your CAT 1 equipment would fit with a CAT 2 -> CAT 1 pair of bushings (and a top link bushing). Cost less than $10 for the bushings.

Plus, any CAT 2 equipment that you come across will fit right on to the Pat's by just leaving off the bushings.

Awesome, I will look into them.

If all you have is the tree spade so far then I would modify it to Cat 2, then get a Cat 2 quick hitch and buy Cat 2 implements from here on.

Make them all fit the IMatch and save yourself all the irritation of hooking up. Aquire good quality implements as you can afford them and have implements that will last for your lifetime.

This may seem like a silly question, but that has never stopped me from asking before. What are the big issues with connecting a Cat 1 implement to a tractor with a Cat 2 3 Pt hitch? My JD 5303 has a Cat 2 hitch standard and most of the implements I use are Cat 1. We purchased a grader last year and I told the gentleman we would run it on a Cat 2 set up. I "assumed" the Ford 4000 we wanted to use it on too was a Cat 2 also. Had to go back and change out pins so it would work on the Cat 1 on the Ford. Grader had holes drilled for both. I realize there is a little slack or play in the attachment point, but I can't see it ever creating a problem the way I am using it. I realize that it should mean I could over power the implement and damage it, but for some of the implements such as a drag harrow or rotary cutter I can't see that happening.

I mentioned in a previous post about the weight of the tractor being a factor. My point in that was that without the weight you can't get the traction. If you can't get the traction you can't put the stress required to break stuff on the implement. Now if you choose to ram something with say a box blade that is a different story. Like most things, if you abuse them or try to tear them up you will usually succeed.

Your 5303 has a Cat 1+2 hitch so you should be able to use either size. As with my compact your pretty much at the top of the size range for most Cat 1 implements, alot would depend on your ballast. My 4520 with weights is about 5500 lbs, an unballasted 5303 is about 5200 lbs. If you add a lots of weights or liquid filled tires the 5303 could tear up some Cat 1 implements. Some judgement is required, but you can operate both Cat 1 and Cat 2 implements.

I can understand your dilema as Cat 2 implements add alot of cost but the flipside is these are usually heavy duty for longer life.

The JD 5105 I had previously had lift arm balls that would rotate between Cat 1 and Cat 2. I did not like this set up. I frequently just used the Cat 2 hole since hooking up was easier. I did have one of the balls fail. I replaced it with a standard Cat 2. I felt like having both holes drilled seriously reduced the overall strength. I see the JD 5303 specs show both, but my 2008 unit only has the Cat 2 lift arm balls. My tractor has the FEL and filled 16.9-28 tires. Total weight is somewhere around 7600 lbs. I do see your point though in going with the Cat 2 to protect the equipment. My point initially was based on my experience with the JD 5105 2WD. I didn't fear tearing up equipment due to frequent loss of traction. Now if I took a backward run at a solid object with a box blade....that is a different story.

It's just that the cat 1 are lighter, lower horse power machines and the force they can put on the attachment is less than a cat2 tractor.
