Replacing the tracks on my cat 257 and at the same time i am replacing the door sensor. As soon as I did that the emergency break which controls the forward and reverse movements of the tracks as well as the lifting operation of the arms stopped working. The sensor is good and everything is hooked up correctly.

What is the question?

This might need to go under the title of Construction Equipment

the question is what could be the problem with the parking break not releasing the hydraulics. We tried putting the old sensor back on and that didnt work.

If the sensor is supposed to represent a closed door, try using a jumper across the plug. Is there anyway to test the new sensor. Is it like a magnetic switch? Do you have an open door indicator on the dash/console?

there is no open door indicator. When i sit down in the machine I close the door then i pull the arm rest down and then turn the machine on. after I turn the machine on i push the parking break button and usually you here a click which means the hydraulics have been released but now i dont hear that . The bucket moves very slowly and you can hear a whining in the drive sprockets that turn the tracks. like it wants to move but something is not letting it go.
