Tractor
Caseih Farmall 50A
I recently bought a new Farmall 50A tractor. It is a 2 wheel drive, no loader as I needed it as a haying tractor. I have a couple of questions. First, it has a gear noise (Trans or rear end?) that seems quite loud too me. It is louder in reverse. I've talked to the dealer, and he said as long as the oil is at the proper mark (and it is) on the dip stick to run it. Just wondering if anyone else with a tractor like this has noticed this problem. Secondly, when I first got it, I filled it with diesel, and ran it about 20 hours or so, and the fuel gauge did not drop at all. Removed the filler cap and there was a strong vacuum. Then the gauge registered about 1/3 or so. Is it normal for there to be a vacuum when the cap is removed? Oh one other thing, the speedometer registers in km/hr and I need mph. Can I change that or does the dealer need to hook a computer to it to change that. Other wise, it seems like it is going to be a good tractor. I did hook it to a 6 ft bush hog and cut some high, thick grass and it handled it good.

Had the same tractor and sold it a few years back. Was a great hay tractor and I never had any of the issues you described. Only problems were the starter went out around 200 hours and the neutral position sensor failed around 250 hours. Otherwise it ran strong for us for quite a few years before and after those problems

I have seen mud daubers get in the fuel tank vent lines and plug them off.
When that happens all sorts of strange things happen.
