For about a year the rpm's come up slow, it don't respond to throttle right away and it has bad knock on the upperside around #3. I use it to roll hay so I throttle up and leave it alone and it had power. Last year about every 45 minutes it would run hot and we stop and added water and went on. No oil in water or water in oil.
I took off the hood this year before we started and it didn't run hot for the 3 hours we used it before it quit. It acted like fuel filter. I had 1 so we put it on the primary and I check the screen in the injector pump for slime. It had no power after and since. It has white smoke but not terrible but too much. It will puff white smoke like an injector not hitting, not steady but often. The rpm's with dip when it does. Since parking it I changed both filters and gaskets and rechecked the gaskets several times (wix 33166). I acts like it is getting air in the system somewhere. It has good fuel flow from tank and I put a new line on it .I put on a new lift pump and the push rod to the cam.I checked the line to filter housing.I pulled the filter housing and put well fitted o-rings in where rubber washers were in top of housing. The metal washers on filter bolts are slightly concaved from tightening. The o-rings might have been a mistake. I put silicone on the filter bolts and teflon tape on inlet line to filters. It would respond to throttle normal. I drove it and it had a lot more power but still not right. I drove it around for about 10 minutes and it seem like it lost some power. I parked it and put silicone on all the fittings and let it set up. When I tried it then it was like before, I had to run sideways to get up the hill. no power at all. I have not check fuel pressure or compression test. I have a filter housing ordered for it. All my efforts have been to air in fuel system. appreciate any comments.
I forgot to include that I took out air filters completely while checking and also checked the turbo shaft.

Two things I nedd to ask. Did you see air in the fuel when you bled it? Did you lose coolant when or after it overheated? I'm thinking on the latter that you have a warped head between two cylinders.

I put empty filters on and pumped them up so I can't really say. I have broke and bled so many times I really don't recall excess air in lines
As for the water I added about a third of a gallon and ran cool water over the radiator. never seen any leaks

When you bleed the fuel out of the bleeders, once the filters are full and the air is purged, you will see a solid stream of fuel without air bubbles.
A warped or cracked head may be causing water the water loss, knocking and overheating.

I see you have replaced the lift pump and the pushrod did the lift pump come with different thickness gaskets? I ask this because we had one here that we fitted a new lift pump/pushrod and still had trouble with low power we eventually tried the pump with no gasket just a sealant and it was back to normal, they run a very small lift on the cam and any wear is really noticeable in the performance of the tractor. IIRC the pmp we were supplied had 2 different thickness gaskets and we started off with the heaviest one first and it would hardly start.

Thanks for the reply. I didn't get a gasket, used the old one. I pulled the end plate and put new gasket in it and used silicone on all fuel fittings
and now it's working ok. Haven't worked it but it drove out good and cranks good and responds to throttle. I can't find a filter assembly for it.
I check Massicks and ASAP salvage. Thanks again
