I just bought a 1967? Case 680CK S/N 9101205. I was told it had a main seal leak, I drove it 6 miles home, dripping oil. Oil pressure stayed around 50 PSI, engine warmed up and stayed at 190, converter temp stayed below half way into the green, tach worked and shows 1769 hrs. At home I took a sample of the oil leak and it appears to be TCH (transmission/converter/hydraulic) fluid. It is running out pretty fast. I was hoping for a slow engine oil leak that would allow me to use the machine for a while until I could pull the engine. Oh Well. Having fixed most every old machine I have acquired, I expect to be able to handle it myself, though I have not rebuilt a torque converter before. The pressure gauge for the converter was inoperative, but the machine did drive 6 miles and go up my hill (I have 204 acres of S facing mountainside with 3 miles of road). My main question is, since the converter is working, can I replace seals and get back to work. I would also replace the crank seals both front and back at the same time. Any other suggestions? Also, while forcing grease into dried out joints, the grease in the bottom pivot of the king pins on both sides was really hard. After about half hour of digging on each side with a little screwdriver, I was able to get them to take grease, but I have yet to lift the load off and see how tight they are. The load bearing bearing on both sides is gone but for part of one protective shield. I have not been able to find a king pin set online, although I expect I could replace the bearing by ID/OD and thickness. The pivots screw out (big hex head with grease zerk in center). Any recommendations on another source for a king pin set that would work. I love my old machines and try to keep them running the best I can, as I slowly become obsolete like the rest of them. I just recently got online and love these forums. Perhaps someday I can figure out how to post pictures. Some of my machines are; two Allis Chalmers HD19s' and one 20, 1968 Terex 72-51 A, 1976 Warner Swazey 311, 1973 Case 350 w/ back hoe, old Case/Davis trencher backhoe, 1995 Case 1845, 1990s' Case 395 FWD tractor, 1980s' John Deere (Yanmar) 950 FWD tractor, 1940s' Allis Chalmers I 60 S/N 5AJ 978 (for sale/runs/bad drive to steering pump/ $800)
