Case 580SE 1987 \"Rough idle\"

This is my first hoe,I had 3 tracked loaders.This CASE has 5400hrs. on the clock, All works well but it seems too idle rough under 900 rpm is this the norm?But smoth as silk over 900

I'd think that 900 to 1000 would be about the low idle. The roughness below would more then likely be a bad injector. Does it smoke?

Those 4 cylinder Cummins (Case) engines did sometimes shake the whole machine while idling.You couldn't leave anything on the fenders or hood as it would slide right off.
As you observed just a little throttle would fix it and I used to bump the throttle up a little habitually when I dismounted the machine in anticipation of it.There is nothing wrong as far as I know,just the nature of the beast.
The one thing you might check is your motor supports as a lot can change if they are bad.

Thanks for the infor. Mach. starts nice, runs nice, just idles rough!! puffs alittle white smoke at idle once in awhile! Little or no black smoke underload.
