Case 580c starter

I am looking to replace the starter on my Case 580c backhoe. The unit on it is a Delco #1109149. I see in a parts catalog that this machine also came with a Denso starter #028000-5880. The Delco unit should have a 10 tooth gear and the Denso unit has a 13 tooth gear. Same flywheel on engine for both starters. Can I use either starter even though they gave different gears on them without damaging the starter or the flywheel? The ability to use either will help in locating a replacement starter

I believe so. Never paid attention to the pinion, but there is even a 9 tooth starter available.

Thanks for your info. The only thing I can think of is that the gears may be a slightly different diameter which would make the various tooth counts reasonable. I have not found any info on the diameter of the gears so I am just guessing on this
