Case 580C brakes

Hello, I just purchased a 580C with some pretty weak brakes. Actually one doesnt work (pedal goes to the floor) and the other barely stops the tractor.

The wheel on the side that doesnt work has evidence of brake fluid on the wheel. Are these brakes just simple drum brakes like on a truck? Is it likely that a brake cylinder is to blame?

How much would a set of shoes set me back?

Umm, not sure, but I don't think the brakes on the 580C will be like regular drum brakes. Probably wet disc types or perhaps dry stacked discs.

sounds like you need a manual for your 580C.

You might be able to adjust your brake linkages and help them somewhat.

Thanks but I need to find out what seal is leaking all the brake fluid out. I was wondering if there was a common problem or seal that is prone to failure on this model

Sorry, can't help you on that. I have a friend that has a 580 case, will check with him if I can catch him. If you plan on keeping it I recommend a service manual.
