New toy!

Case 480E 2800hrs original paint, always stored inside, sheet metal is excellent!

Couple questions.... The dump feature on the loader seems slow for some reason? I've ran 580E's in the past and just trying to compare and figure things out.

I know the 480 is a lesser unit but should it be able to pick itself up with the down riggers more than 1'? Could just be the limitations of the pump I guess?

Thanks!!
Ian

How much did the 480E set you back?

2800 hrs and 15 years old, change the engine coolant. Use Caterpillar extended life coolant, it is expensive but cheaper than an engine rebuild.
Google electrolosis(sp) if you want something to worry about.:(

The bucket probably dumps slower because it does not have the linkage like a 580, and the pump is smaller. The 580 linkage multiplies the cylinder speed by a factor of two? The multiplication would vary as the various angles of the linkage change.

Also, the 480 is extending the cylinders to dump, the 580 retracts the cylinders to dump. Retracting the cylinders takes less oil. Because of the volume occupied by the chrome rod, a retracting cylinder moves faster than an extending cylinder.

580 cylinders are shorter than 480 cylinders.

When you lower the stabilizers of any hoe, the stabilizer pads are traveling in an arc. By the time the pads touch the ground, the arc is inward as well as down ward. Lift the rear of tractor with the hoe as you are lowering the stabilizers. This will reduce or eliminate the resistance caused by the stabilizer pads digging into the ground. I have the exact same issue with any TLB.

Nice looking machine:thumbsup:

Thanks Bob!
$8k, Needs a cutting edge, ball joints on the knuckles, and a seat. The filters look recent but I'm going to do a complete fluid change so I can start keeping track.
I kinda figured the pump limitations were the cause but I wasnt sure. Ive ran 580E and super L in the past so those were the only comparison I had to a 480. It isnt as powerful but thats fine, I'm not a contractor by trade so the couple times a week I use this will work out pretty good.
Biggest issue for me is the 3 stick/foot wing controls! I learned on a 4 stick foot swing but then went to the pilot controls (2 stick) and its hard to get back into the groove!! Anyone have a set of 2 stick controls and valve block sitting around? :D

$8K, Now you are bragging and you should.

I have a new set of 2 stick controls for a 580D/E. The valve block/sections
are all the same for both control lever setups.

no detent on the dump mode just float.

Actually it isn't a detent, you are just allowed to extend the lever beyond the spring stop. This allows the oil to rapidly return to the other side of the piston.

The float is supposed to be on the lift arms, not on the bucket. Wonder if you have hoses crossed somewhere?

What a deal! Is that a new injector pump too?

yep! new injection pump :D

new seat (from northern tool), lights on ROPS, LED flashers, and scored a 46" ditch bucket on craigslist.

Just waxed it yesterday. I need to get a electric buffing wheel and really get after it.
