Hi - I’ve got an old case 260 trencher/ hoe with a Wisconsin gas engine. The fuel tank is really thick metal but also very rusty inside. When I was a kid we would take something like that to a radiator shop and have it boiled out and sealed. I’m in central and north florida Ocala / Gainesville / Jacksonville and can’t seem to locate a old time radiator shop. Anyone local to this region point me too a shop that still tanks this type of thing? Thank you

I've DIY'ed a few tanks like that. Take the tank off and dump out as much rust as you can, stick a few short pieces of chain and/or a few good heaping handfuls of nails and roll it around. I have ratchet strapped them to an electric cement mixer, a pipe threading machine, really anything that you can strap the tank to and let it roll around for a while. Once that's done dump everything out and it should be pretty clean, if it's not up to snuff then some muriatic acid followed IMMEDIATELY by neutralizing and add either your coating of choice or just filling it with fuel. At this stage the inside of the tank will be very susceptible to flash rusting.

^^Done that before. (y) We tied the tank to the wheel of the tractor that still had it's chains on the tires. The chains offered a great way to securely tie the tank to the wheel.

That is interesting idea to tie it to a "shaker". I've cleaned out a few smaller tanks (maybe up to 5 gallons) with various methods, once the flakey stuff gets knocked off the pool acid works pretty good - just a bit dangerous, and as said, flash rusts quickly. I think i used Kreem liner. One turned out real good, but the new one was in worst shape and all the liner didn't adhere / cover as well. That one i also started with vinegar, maybe that was the difference. Anyway, the Case tank is maybe 20 gallons and thick / heavy steel. I'd sure like to find a place to have it done.. Thanks for the replies
