What about getting some of the larger fiberglass posts. Fiberglass Posts
has a big selection. I would think that having something that flexes would work.

railroad ties 9 or 10 foot if you can find them.

build a standard H corner with a 4x4 (or landscape timber) cross member and it will still give but certianly disable the car enough that they wont be driveing off.

May plant you some trees in fence line beside your post and hope they can get big enough before someone takes them out,if they make it and get big there are your post from now on. Cant get into trouble for planting a few trees.....

He had better plant a LOT of trees. :D

Along the road I mentioned previously, there is a parcel of land that was timbered a decade or so ago and the pines have come along nicely. You can see were two cars have plowed into the pines. One car was driving south and the other north. North bound there is a curve a good distance prior to where the car went off the road. I really don't think the curve had much too do with the accident. South bound there is no curve. I wonder if a deer jumped in front of the cars but who knows. Over the last six months I have seen two cars, south bound, that went off the road for some reason as well. Both ended up hitting large trees. Not sure whey they went off the road either.

Later,
Dan

I think I'd put a pond just past the corner post, or just big muddy hole, and at the very least I'd put up some security cameras to have evidence of who done the damage.

Dig a ditch in front of your fence. Pile the spoils in front of fence.

I used to take care of a large shopping center with several landscaped islands. At one of the entrances, vehicles were taking the short cut through flower beds, and sprinkler systems. In order to block vehicles from ruining things, I installed a 6" well casing, set in, and filled with concrete. A big rig which failed to make a wide turn destroyed it all in less than two seconds.

hmm -- why not build a pit inside corner of that post that keeps getting hit and have another fence to keep everyone else from going into the pit inside the pit.

On the other hand - when you made thee comment that if post is sheared , insurance won't pay?! did you even ask HOW to make other drivers pay when they crash? this would give you ideas what to modify as per YOUR insurance suggestion. So , give your insurance a call with theoretically scenarios.

If I knew who hit it I would certainly have filed against their insurance. Problem is they left the scene. No I'll file against my own policy for what is probably $2k worth of work max assuming I paid a guy to fix it for me.
