Can\'t get bucket loader to reattach on 2210

I own a brand new 2210. I got the "masts" of the bucket loader back on and properly seated but cannot get loader bar to seat properly back into the tractor "u-shaped" fitting on front end of tractor body.....so the spring pins won't fit back in. Have tried everything I can think of to get the loader bar to fit back up into the tractor.
Also, how do you get the loader to "float"? I have followed manual instructions and the bucket will not free float over the surface of the ground.
Help??????
Am female, in my 60s, working on this tractor by myself and want to learn everything I can about it.....but, am not familiar with this loader and having to learn as I go.

Re: Can\'t get bucket loader to reattach on 2210

I'm not familiar with the loader, but it may be simply a matter of having to remove a little paint. Often, the paint is just a little too thick for the bar to fall into place. Other than that, I'm not sure what the problem is unless you just need to change the position by operating the joystick until you have it positioned properly.
As for the float, pushing the joystick all the way forward should put you into float, and the joystick should remain in the position until you pull it back. If it's not happening there, you may have the hydro connections in the wrong locations. John

Re: Can\'t get bucket loader to reattach on 2210

Buckie, I encountered the same sorta problem with a much larger tractor so what I did was got a bar for leverage and lined my 500lb+ bucket up by hand in the quick attach bracket it was much easier to see what was happening that way after I figured out what all needed to happen to get it set I now can just drive up tilt my quick attach top bar forward and just scoop it right up it takes about a minute to get it off and on and most of that is driving the lower pins in and out. As far as the float if you push the loader valve lever all the way forward I think you'll find the float section at least thats how mine is.

Re: Can\'t get bucket loader to reattach on 2210

thanks, it may be that it is just the paint, or that the fitting on the tractor (the u-shaped opening where the loader bar is supposed to fit) is just a bit snug. Am going to put some lube on the fitting and see if that helps. It's only about 1/4 inch from seating all the way back in, which is maddening.
I followed the directions on trying to get the loader to float, which were to push the joy stick all the way forward. No luck. It may be the hydraulics are connected up wrong. The JD guys are delivering a rear blade for me next week, so I will have them check this. meantime, will keep trying to get the loader bar to fit. If all else fails, there is always the good old sledge hammer! LOL

Re: Can\'t get bucket loader to reattach on 2210

On getting a FEL into Float.

If you do a search for float and FEL you will find lots of advice on it, but basically you start with the FEL a bit off the ground and quickly push the stick forward untill it stops, then a bit further until to "pops" into float.

I recommend trying to find the float position on the stick with the engine off with the tractor just sitting there and the FEL on the ground the first time. This will allow you to get used to where the float position on the stick is without banging the FEL around or lifting the tractor up in the air. Once you understand the feel of float, then you can try it for real.

If you haven't used it, it may not want to pop into float as easily. Push the stick forward, there should be a very clear detent feel when it goes into float. You may have to push pretty hard the first few times. If you feel like you might break something, look at the linkages and lubricate them a little, they may have firmed up from nonuse.

Good luck,

Cliff

ok, will give it a try. I have not been able to feel any break or detent in the stick when i push it completely forward. it just wants to make the tractor front wheels rear up off the ground. i am wondering if the hoses are connected correctly. will check further.

Re: Can\'t get bucket loader to reattach on 2210

Problem #1,
Getting the loader back on, I had this same problem when I did it the first time. I had to take a large block of wood and beat the catch in place. My problems stemmed from not taking the loader off on a perfectly level surface, I did it in the grass. Lesson learned: ALWAYS take the loader off on a flat, hard level surface. Since I have done this, it goes back on very easily.
Problem #2,
To get the hang of the float, turn the tractor OFF until you get the feel for it, that way you won't be raising the front up and bouncing all over the place. Use a very quick, sharp PUSH forward, it will be like smacking it away from you. You will feel like you are breaking something, but it will go there. You will feel it "POP" into place when it does. Just pull the stick back slightly to release it.

Hope this helps... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Re: Can\'t get bucket loader to reattach on 2210

Absolutely! I detached the FEL on a gravel driveway and, though I thought it was reasonably hard and level, it definitely is not. I should have tried it out the first time or two on the concrete in my garage. I plan to lube up the FEL bar and get myself a heavy rubber mallet and see if I can knock it in place by striking the pads underneat the bar. The darn FEL itself is so heavy that I can't budge it, especially as it is sitting on gravel.
I will work on the float piece, too. Am probably just being too timid with the stick. Even with these initial problems, I must say that the tractor and FEL are great! I practiced all day Saturday, just using the FEL (before I got bold enough to detach it and couldn't get it back together).
The seat isn't very comfortable. Am gonna figure out how to make myself a pad, or get a replacement with a high back.

Just remember to ALWAYS take it off on a hard, level surface.

Re: Can\'t get bucket loader to reattach on 2210

Buckie,

Looks like you are getting a lot of good help from the others here. I got my 2210 in September of last year. When the dealer deliver the tractor, the guy spent over an hour going over all of the functions (I had a lot of questions, ie attachments and such). He wouldn't leave until I took the loader off and put it back on. I would recommend going back over to the dealer, and spend a little time on a machine over there taking on and off the loader. Once you get the hang of it is off and on again very easily. You paid them for a delivered tractor, Utilize their knowledge.
