My brother had an old Jeep CJ hardtop laying around.
I cut off the back window and sides.
Made a nice even cut all the way around.
Welded up some brackets.
Didn't take long to do.
If you look at the pictures I think I have the front angled up too high.

I still need to finish welding and paint but it seems to work well and it covers backhoe seat as well

That sure looks good!!! I guess I better get to the junk yard before the run starts on CJ tops and the price goes way up.

Just sold a CJ top a coupla months back...could have bought 3 factory sun shades for what i sold the top for....

I have been toying around with doing something similar to that. I don't want to use a cj top though I was thinking a firberglass truck cap from a compact truck could be used. I had one and gave it away a few months back then the idea came to me. Go figure I get rid of some thing then find a use for it.

Nice job so far. Promise me you'll cut off those sharp corners on the angle iron before you are done. :D

This is just in mock up form so far. I need to take it off and modify it.
Lower the front angle down, cut off those sharp corners on the angle iron,
hang a rear view mirror-not sure exactly where yet. I guess I could mount rear lights on it too.

This was just junk laying around for years.
I love the extra width- rain from the side drips down over the center of the rear tire tread.
The hardtop is very strong. I feel safer under it.
Not sure if I should paint it blue or white. The metal will be the same as the ROPS

I sold my jeep hardtop about 4 years ago for over $900. I don't think the prices have dropped.

I sold mine 2 years ago, all scratched up for $500.00

You lucked out there!

Nice going guys. Now you have bummed out Mike. And he is rightfully proud of his work :D

Nah I'm not bummed out.
If I have something laying around with no intention of selling I look at it as a raw material. I also have a cap for a Toyota Pickupthat I considered using.
It was too thin in my opinion- good only for a sunshade/umbrella.
I get some real FOPS protection out of this and it only cost $20.00 out of pocket.

I didn't post to get approval just to share and if anyone had suggestions
they would be very welcome!

I'm funnin' ya. It seems like no matter what I sell anything for, someone will always try to tell me it was worth twice as much. Of course you never see them with their wallets out. :D

Those old Jeep people sure seem to stick together and keep the prices up. I like the top and I saw one a while back for sale for 30 dollars with a broken rear gate. Now to find it ! Sure looks like a nice factory lid !

Good call on the camper tops....you can get those for a mini truck, and that too would be a cheap cap. Seems they are around just for the haulin' off...

The camper top is a good idea,I had a fiberglass one I couldn't give away. I don't care a jeep top was used, that makes the remaining ones more valuable. :DIt was actually a pretty good use of something you didn't need.
