I found this old box and hope someone can tell me what it is. Someone told me it was for artillery shells, someone else said it was for dynamite. So I turn to you for the straight scoop [there has to be someone on this site who knows].
As shown in the pictures, the wood has an odd yellowish stain on it -- not necessarily on purpose.
The top has a sort of question mark curlicue with no words.
The front has some numbers -- the first two are very faint but I'm guessing they read "No. 2404."
It has a nice stencil of the word "STUBES" on one end.
The hinge is about 3/4 of the way back on the lid.
So as always your thoughts are appreciated.
