Can you identify this wooden Stubes box

I found this old box and hope someone can tell me what it is. Someone told me it was for artillery shells, someone else said it was for dynamite. So I turn to you for the straight scoop [there has to be someone on this site who knows].

As shown in the pictures, the wood has an odd yellowish stain on it -- not necessarily on purpose.
The top has a sort of question mark curlicue with no words.
The front has some numbers -- the first two are very faint but I'm guessing they read "No. 2404."
It has a nice stencil of the word "STUBES" on one end.
The hinge is about 3/4 of the way back on the lid.

So as always your thoughts are appreciated.

What are the dimensions of the box and what does it look like inside?

I don't think it says STUBES.

I think it says TUBES with a larger S symbol on each side of the word TUBES.

May be electronics related?

Yeah, it really is different. Inside, there's nothing to it -- just wood. There's a good bit of the yellow stain there which is why someone said it probably held dynamite but again I have no idea about that.

Maybe Beer? Stubes is a name for an establishment selling alchol, mainly beer, German origin.

Although it's been many years, I have seen a lot of dynamite boxes. The ones I recall were made of 1/2 " Pine, approximately 18" X 24" X18" and finger jointed at the corners. They would have something like "DuPont" written on the sides. As I recall, they were nailed shut, and had no hinges. My Dad used to be a Superintendent at a rock quarry, and I had scads of these things to play with and to make things out of. The dynamite of those days was made from a sawdust material soaked Nitro Glycerine and wrapped in a brown wax paper. I doubt those stains are from dynamite, as the Nitro was fairly unstable especially if it was separated from the matrix. They disposed of it if that happened.

I also have a munitions box of some sort that I bought at a garage sale; it is about 48" X 16" X 14", with hinges, and made of a bit sturdier material. Could your box be some sort of a foot locker?

Yeah, now that you mention it, it looks like what it says is 8 tube 8
