Oh, don't get me wrong.. I completly agree. I just think when you work something out over the phone with somebody and set a time to pick up and they sell it 2 hours prior to picking it up...just ins't right. Lesson learned for me.

now thats a differant story, I wouldn't trust that guys handshake either. More than once I have told someone if your not here by X:00 I have someone else that will take it and they have.

Those deals work both ways. Been on both sides of things like that. You got something for sale and the guy or gal says they are on their way over, but they never show. What do you do? Meanwhile, you gotta tell others what?

It is a tough deal all the way around. Sometimes for the buyer and sometimes for the seller. All you can do is be honest all the way around, but in the end, it comes down to whoever shows up first with the cash. That is about all the seller and the buyer can do.

The old motto still holds. First come, first served.

There are people who adopted that used car salesman mentality and that in the end leads to no one respecting the given word anymore. And we all get pissed of why layers make a lot of money. It goes both ways. People who say will show and don't and the ones that say they will wait but they don't. Our national motto could be: "Trust no one." It helps to make friends.

All the seller had to do was tell the guy that showed up early that he had a guy coming to pick up the tractor at "X" time, if he doesn't show on, or before that time, it's yours.

Off topic and not to belabor it, but as a seller, I am no longer comfortable making any deals or agreements over the phone. Just cannot anymore. I am very upfront about it. As I buyer, I would like to have a seller "hold" it for me, but even that is unrealistic. I know if I say I am coming over, I mean it, but most sellers have heard that before and no longer believe it. I have placed and taken deposits via PayPal, etc. and that certainly makes life a little more certain for everyone, until the face to face can be arranged.
