@Yoopertractor if you are in the upper peninsula as your name suggests, the snow load for the area would also need to be known for the span.

My region has a 70 lb snow load and a 100 mph wind load. So securing the lumber for uplift is also a factor.

Once you know the snow load and the dead load (from roofing) and the span, you can find the required spacing and/or size of rafters from tables such as these:

Typically you would use 8 foot spacing for 4x6 posts, but you could increase that somewhat for a small lean to. Unless you need larger openings, I would just go with 8 feet.

We need to know where you're located (snow load), whether you're using them as rafters or purlins, what distance they're spanning, whether you're using headers between posts with rafters resting on them or rafters bolted/resting to/on posts with purlins between them, roof pitch, how much of/if there is a roof above that may be sending snow onto the lean-to etc, etc.
