Hi all,
I recently bought a back blade to use mostly for snow but also for dirt this summer. I've been disappointed to find that the blade keeps catching on things because I can't raise it high enough off the ground.
I was thinking that maybe I could replace the left, non-adjustable lift arm on the 3 point hitch with one that is adjustable. I don't know if there is any reason this would not be a good idea, or if it would even work at all.
I couldn't find much on this topic online, but I was hoping I might get some ideas on this forum. Thanks,
Daniel

can you put the top link in the upper hole?

Most of the gain in lift will come from the length and position of the top link/

On many tractors, the lift arms have different holes to adjust lift height. Check and see if your tractor does.

I don't believe altering tractor is a good idea, alter blade instaed.
Dropping hitch pins lower on blade will result in raising blade higher. You might also have to drop top link attachment point on blade. If you have a torch and welder it should be simple. You could also mock it up with bolt-on first to make sure it works like we think it will then weld in place.

The INBOARD end of the Top Link pins into hole pairs.

Your tractor may have 2-3-4 pairs of holes for the INBOARD attachment of the Top Link.

Pinning the Top Link into the LOWEST pair of holes will give your earth moving implements maximum adjustment range.

Your toplink can be shortened quite a bit yet, that will raise the blade a lot.

You can also vary which top link hole on the tractor you use and see if that changes anything.

Moving the top link to the bottom hole on the tractor side, will raise the blade when you lift the 3 pt. Also, looks like there is another set of holes on the lift arms that you can use. Move the side links to those holes and give it a try. Should lift quite a bit higher.

You have a few places you can change for a higher lift. Move the 3 point arms out (up arrow). Use the lower toplink hole (right arrow) or move the toplink connection to the blade (left arrow).

Adjust all three and I think the blade might hit you on the back of your head :ROFLMAO:

Seriously, getting the blade to lift that much will reduce the angle that the blade can bite into the ground and be much less aggressive (not be able to cut into the ground).

Thank you all very much. I spent a fair amount of time trying to figure out what the various adjustments did in terms of raising the blade. From what I could tell, the only adjustment that would actually raise the blade higher was to somehow shorten the lift arm. So I did try using the upper hole at the bottom attachment of the lift arm. This didn't seem to make much difference. And from the replies I got, it sounds like I was wrong anyway....
I will play around with different top link configurations, and also maybe the lift arm holes.
Also, I'm not sure I used the proper terminology. I'll watch the videos to be sure.
What I am calling the "lift arm" is the piece I drew arrows to the top and bottom of, on the picture on my initial post.
To "old and tired", thanks for the suggestions. What do you call the part that your UP arrow is pointing to? Is that the lift arm?
Thanks everyone.
