I guess the headline pretty much says it all:

"Can I Get KTAC on a Late-Model, Used B-series?"

Okay, I do have more questions:

1. Will it cover both Liability (i.e., "3rd Party Benefits") and;

2. Will it cover damage to the tractor (i.e., "1st Party Benefits") and;

3. Will it cover me off of my own property AT ALL--as in, I cross the street, to plow out the berm the Town's snow plow left in the end my neigbor's driveway, and someone skids into me, etc....

4. Will it cover me, AND my tractor, OFF of my own property, for BOTH Liability and (My tractor for Damage) if I'm doing a job, say for a neighbor, FOR MONEY. IOW, for light, commercial use/"cash work," AND cover the tractor (i.e., again, for "1srt Party Benefits")?

5. How much are the premiums?

6. How much Liability does it provide?

7. How much 1st Party coverage (again, coverage for damage to MY tractor) does it provide?

8. Does it provide any coverage to ME, for personal bodily injury to ME, if I do something stupid (or someone hits me?)

Phew! I guess that was more than a single headline's worth of questions, huh?

Thanks much!

Suggest u contact insurance co directly

I'm sorry...I thought I remembered a member here, actually called "KTAC," or something similar, who either sold, or otherwise represented, the insurance company.

I also (apparently mistakenly) thought that since a significant number of TBN/Kubota members buy used machines, the question might have a fairly broad appeal.

My bad.

You remembered correctly about "KTAC", but since you posted at 10:45 on a Friday night, you might need to wait until the office opens on Monday for a reply. I have coverage with KTAC but would think a reply from them would be more useful than me digging out the policy and attempting to figure out answers to your questions. Worst case, a phone call to them should quickly answer your coverage question re. used equipment.

I think that I can answer a couple of those questions viz., KTAC only covers the tractor itself, on or off the property IIRC. They don't have anything to do with liability IIRC. They probably can cover a used tractor.

Thanks guys,

I really appreciate all your responses. And no, I wasn't meaning to convey that I expected anyone to dig out their policy and study it for me. For all we know, coverage varies according to which of the 50 states we're in (not to mention "mental states" LOL), right?

I guess I'm just over-eager/anxious to know if I'll be able to get a used machine covered (one dealer said "Yes, but only if WE--a Kubota dealer--sold it it you...) and another dealer said "Sure--you can contract with the company directly, even if you bought from a private party...).

Ah...dealers.

Thanks again for the links and other contact info--very helpful.

I'll get on the blower on Monday.

Have a great weekend.

I contracted with KTAC directly. I have it on my Kioti. I was already a KTAC customer from previous Kubota's. I have heard some say they would not write on other brands unless you were already a customer.. But I don't know for sure.

James,

First, let me say that I ALWAYS enjoy your posts--their always rationale, thoughtful, helpful and respectful. Not that others aren't (almost) always that way--but yours are ALWAYS that way--IME.

Second, thank you for the weekend response. But I have just one question:

Did your Kubotas, or your Kioti, come to you through licensed Kubota dealers, or from private parties?

I bought from a private party--that's my main concern, in terms of whether I'll be eligible for a KTAC policy.

Thanks again, my friend--always good to hear from you.

Sincerely,

The Kubota's were bought from Kubota Dealers, and the insurance was set up by them. I liked the coverage, and wanted to continue it when I bought the Kioti, also from a Kioti dealer. So I contacted KTAC directly and they took the serial number information from me on the tractor and loader and wrote the policy. It will be interesting to see how they react to your request for the tractor you have bought from a private party. Thank you for the kind words about me.

I inquired about KTAC insurance and was told they only insure Kubota products.

I am thinking if the tractor was insured by the previous owner you stand a good chance. BTW KTAC insurance is great.

Indeed--it will be interesting, indeed. (And you're most welcome for the kind words--you earn them every time you type here, so I'm happy to give credit where credit is due).

Murhpy,

Thanks for the input--the response you got is my fear--but things do change, in insurance (and admittedly, NOT often for the better, for the "end user," but we'll see).
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

abcuster,

Believe it or not, I'm locked in "mortal combat" right now, trying to find antique insurance for the older Jeep I bought (with 6'6" hyd. angle plow), just weeks before the Kubota became available, as I was determined not to rely on the generosity of my neighbor, this year, to assist with snow removal (due to some injuries I'm fighting).

So, no sooner did I buy the Jeep than the Kubota became available--it never rains but it pours--but I do have a use for the Jeep, at a different property. The problem is, my mechanic (a friend and former co-worker) and I have both been waiting for "the other guy" to call, and I need to get the Jeep (and plow) out of his lot, as soon as I can--though he's not pressuring me.

Heck--I'll "Hi-Jack" my own post, here, in case this antique insurance info proves helpful to others, OR someone can tell me which of the following might cover the plow on the Jeep, for NON-commercial use; i.e., just our place and possibly a couple of neighbors:

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
But I called Hemmings Motor News (I subscribe to all four of their publications, including "The Bible") and they were VERY helpful, giving me the following list of antique/collector car insurance carriers, and phone numbers, most of which I have yet to call, but which I thought I'd share:

1. Hagerty: (800) 922-4050

2. Chubb Personal Insurance:
(866) 227-9648

3. Heacock:
(888) 525-2041

4. Collector Car Insurance: (800) 787-7637

5. Classic Auto Insurance:
(800) 397-0765

6. Classic Collectors Insurance:
(800) 886-8304

7. Continental Washington Group (comes up as Berkley Classics?):

(800) 603-3330

8. J. C. Taylor: (888) 268-4783

9. Grundy: (800) 338-4005

I thought the ladies at Hemmings Motor News were most helpful (as they are in all things they handle) in sharing the above contact info with me, especially since it's not their business model (Hemmings doesn't offer any insurance, itself).

Again, I'd be most interested in anyone who has successfully managed to get antique/classic insurance to cover their snow plow, for NON-COMMERCIAL PLOWING only (i.e., just our own property, and possibly a neighbors, for no money--just good will).

UPDATE on Jeep Insurance:

Requirements for antique/historical insurance vary from company to company, but generally have annual mileage limitations of 3,500 (Hagerty) and 2,500 (a co. I can't recall, 20 years ago), and bar commercial usage.

And the motorvehicle must be at least 25 y.o. to be considered "antique"--at least, in NYS.

(As of now) Hagerty won't cover ANY plowing--even just on our own property (or the neighbor's) with ZERO exchange of money for services rendered.

They...just...don't..."do plows."

Here's hoping at least some of my fellow forum members are as cheap as I am, and would welcome an entire YEAR's of property/liability coverage, at decent limits (i.e., $300K), for about $350./year.

I just need to find the carrier that will also consider covering the plow, at least for non-commercial purposes.

Any suggestions much appreciated.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

So, between those two "toys" and LIFE, I confess I've not yet contacted KTAC.
I'm also still in the process of attempting to ask the Kubota seller to undertake the hydro mods necessary to add a grapple to the FEL, which would also require the SSQA surgery.

But I'll let you guys know, when I know more!

Thanks again, all.

I contacted them this week about my B3030 that was a private purchase. Was told no problem. I just need to give them the S/N of the tractor and FEL and send them payment and will be all set.

Yaye!

Good for you, CGK...and good for me!

And Welcome to the Forums! (Just in case no one else had yet, which I'm betting they had). :)

Thank you for that bit of good news! (Now, back on "Hold" with the DMV I go, re: the Jeep).

I bought my Kubota B2920 from an individual. I initially insured the tractor with State Farm and still have it insured with them. I asked for a quote from KTAC a while back using their website. A few days later a rep called me with the quote. She acted like it would be no problem to insure the B2920 with them. I may make the switch to KTAC but need to get more details on the State Farm policy to determine if there is any advantage to the switch.
