Can Hours Be Rolled Back?

While I agree that hours are only 1 of many things to look at on a used tractor and are most useful for tracking service intervals, as 1 thing in the consideration for purchase, if it does not add up with the other considerations, then the decision to me is simple, move on to look at the next one!

Just curious while looking at a used tractor. Is there a way that someone could roll back the hours or stop the hours from reading accurately on unit? If YES what should I be looking for or at??

Bought a used Deere 5205 about 10 years ago, was told lightly used only 11k hours (1996 model). Looked it over test drove it, saw tach and hour meter doing their thing. Fast forward get it home and discover that the tach, which drives the hour meter, only works about 25-30% of the time.......
