Can anyone identify this part?

I have this part that has no numbers on it. I got it at an auction of an excavating company that was closing. Any ideas about what it is? I'd hate to just scrap it.

Interesting. Seems like just fancy caps but they must be more than that. Throw it in your metal cutoff shelf and let it be. You never know what it might be useful for.

It looks like its Kubota orange or Hitachi orange. That's about all I can figure

I'm going to guess it is some sort of means of mechanically attaching to objects with pipe threads, like perhaps you'd use to twist or drill a pipe into the ground. And I think it's incomplete, because there seem to be internal splines on one of the pieces, which is captive on the assembly, but nothing else for those splines to mate with (not that I could see anyhow).
