Can anybody ID this tree for me?

I have numerous books about tree identification but still draw a blank on this one, it is the only tree of it's type I have. Central Michigan area, it's about 40 feet tall. Thanks.

Not sure what county you are in, but most seem to have a forester.

Wouldn't it be easier if they had name tags "My name is Fred"

The weird thing is, I can identify every other tree we have (Black Walnut, Sycamore, Box Elder, a half dozen types of maples and numerous types of spruce and fir) but NOT this one....

The leaves and fruiting bodies look like cherry from the photo or a similiar species. Since it has already leafed is another indicator. Of course it is always easier to identify in person. Most serviceberries (shadbush) do not get that tall and the fruit stalk is usually shorter. Of course being by itself, it could be some ornamental planted years ago. That is always a challenge when you go into someone's yard and they ask "What is this?" and it is a non-native species.

Looks like it could be a black cherry tree. I'm guessing those buds turn into bunches of white flowers. Have you noticed if those develops small green balls early summer that start turning dark mid-late summer?

If I'm seeing it right, it looks like some type of dogwood or elm.

This tree is well over 600 feet from any dwelling and is in the same row as a group of 80+ year old black walnuts (seen in the background) and I have never seen any fruit. Appreciate all the replies so far !!
