Hello all,

I’ve had by BX24 since 2007 and it has served me well. A few bumps and bruises, but in general, a workhorse.

Recently, I’ve had a problem with pushing down on the heel reverse pedal with no response. There also seems to be very little resistance in the pedal. If I push down on the forward a couple of times, it will then go in reverse.

I took out my mower deck and took a look underneath to further understand how the pedals work and are linked. What I have learned recently, is that if I put one foot on the forward and the other on the reverse, I can “create” the resistance and the reverse works. After looking at the schematic below, I am focusing on the gas shock/strut #160 as possibly failing.

Any thoughts or similar experiences.

sounds like either you are really low on hydrualic oil or a blockage in hst oil flow. how the hst oil level look?

#160 appears to be there to force a "center" to the pedal. I'd be looking and loose linkage or oil level.

Hi Radioman,

long time, no speak, lol

The HST level was the first thing I thought about. I did a fluid change last year, but can’t remember if the issue started soon after that.

I checked the fluid when this all started and don’t see a change in other hydraulic function. I’ll take a peek later today.

I want to take advantage of the mower deck being off to further diagnose this.

Ok, so I pulled my Hydraulic dipstick and I am quite a bit over. When I look down the fill tube, I can see the top of the fluid only about
1-1 1/2” down.
Should I remove some get to the checkered area on the dipstick?

Paul Short in Newfoundland, Canada has a vid on utube addressing a fix he did to fix a situation like yours. As I recall, a linkage had loosened up. Might want to give that a watch and see if there is anything that will help you.
You mentioned your hst oil was over full. It it gets too hot it might blow out the vent. If I were you I’d suction some out til it shows full on the dipstick.

At the aft end of rod 120 the nut and washer is real loose or missing. (#150 and 140)

I might add it's a ***** to do, there isn't much room up in there.

I've held off mounting the deck while I figure it out. I'll take a look at whether I can reach up in there.
