So, will you ski in, and come back with the ATV?

Got to camp late morning and got a fire going, pushed snow back against the building to keep warmth, rolled 5" of new snow down, ate lunch then dragged the road side but the temp was getting warm and not worth doing. Relaxed at camp for a bit then went for a ski in about 34 degrees and no wind. Real snow is predicted overnight and through Friday. Grilling steak with sweet potatoes tonight 😋.

Got another 5" overnight but still snowing on/off during the today. Rolled it down this morning and later tried to drag it but it was to warm at 28 degrees. Will get out for a ski this afternoon. Will post pics when home ❄️...

I'm going to be the slow kid in the room and ask a question. Only because I either missed it, but also because I'm too lazy (and too technically challenged) to search the answer within this thread.

Other than access to your own property and recreational enjoyment of going out and XC skiing, is there a reason you're so involved in packing and maintaining trails? I'm not judging, I just genuinely wanted to know if there's an aspect I missed in this great saga that I've enjoyed following. And just to make myself perfectly understood, a reply of "just because" is perfectly acceptable and equally envied.

Cheers!

As stated earlier, we got trail cams up last time out. Here is a few pics of us, but no wildlife seen in them. Top one is us showing up in camp. Wally is a bit behind and getting up in years.

More pics. As stated earlier, there is a series of ridges here, our cabin was built on top of one where it ends and not very tall. In the bottom photo, we skied down one.

I really like the picture with one of you and the three dogs on what looks like a well-groomed road. Reminds me of a winter resort that people pay to stay at.

Either making a snow bridge, or getting rid of excess snow.

Do you expect you'll have a tractor this year?

It is all beautiful, but going forward a few years, I feel that a CABBED and tracked vehicle will be the way to go.

For 15 years I was employed to keep up ski trails and have been clearing them for around 30. After retirement, we did another set of them. Most XC trails around the Midwest anyway, are done by enthusiast volunteers like us. What do you do in your free time?

That makes sense that most trails are maintained by volunteers or user groups. It looks like a good way to stay active and do something that others can appreciate.

Free time, what's that? I'm still working, which involves lots of travel, so most time at home is doing chores of some type. I'm a pretty avid hunter though, so I spend lots of time in the bush year-round or working on various hunting camp chores.

I'm in the process of trying to retire though and we recently bought our retirement home. There will be a number of projects we'll do on the new place. Some we'll hire-out, a few we'll do ourselves. I'd really like to get into gardening, once I can settle down.

We volunteered long hours & days before I retired. Spouse still works and she does today and has for X years. People who claim "we'll do X after I retire!", rarely do. Not criticizing anyone.
