Arly, now that you have some time at the camp (at least in the winter), what are your thoughts on a tractor, how you would use it, what implements you would want, etc.?

Would you want to continue to park at the end of the road and roll the road in to the camp, or do you think you might want to snow blow or plow it so you can drive your car right to the camp?

How about other things like trail maintenance and summer road maintenance?

Crazy how the dogs don't seem to care how cold it is!!!!
Some dogs take the cold fine, while others can't. Wally in particular doesn't and we need to be careful with him. He's also our oldest mutt at 8 so he can't be out long in these lower temps. Where as Lulu will jump into water at near zero temps and not be bothered and sometimes refuses to come in. Go figure... This picture is Wally.

well most do but they get climatized like everybody else... My lab doesn't handle the cold very well but anything less then -4F she is all right my GSD on the other hand she is good until -22F the worse is their paws... I bring my dog everyday to the property, I make sure I have a blanket for them to sit or lay on and we are there all day.

yeah go ahead Arly... you will pull that with your 6X6 ? are you going to make yourself a hitch block with a flat bar pin receiver hitch to hook up the sley or you are going to put a flat bar pin receiver under the ball ?

I usually do the flat bar pin receiver under the ball then I can do both without swapping the receiver hitch.

I already switched it to a mini pintle hitch. Those are what is used in the XC grooming world.

I'd be curious about the strips. I went fishing yesterday and the snow grabbed the bottom of my jet sled. I did not expect that at 1F, but there was water under the snow and it was sticky. I'd thing about adding strips to my sled.

Those are just extra wear strips they offer. They might be made from uhmw but will raise the bottom up 5/8 an inch.

Get some? If you've not been using some in the past, your ski may have oxidized and now snow shoes.
We only go about once or twice a year in normal years. I don't think I've been on these skis more than 5 times in the past 5 years. It's been almost 3 years since I stepped on them since no snow last winter and back surgery in January. They're supposed to be wax less, but from what I read, we'd benefit from waxing the tips and tails.

Waxless, means they don't need grip wax. All skis are made from similar plastic and all will oxidize in the garage over the summer when UV is high. Wax offers some protection from that. . Might be time for new skis.

New snow at 1°F, or really, any temp under about 15°F, is actually really rough -- it's literally abrasive at that temperature (especially to wax!) -- and you need a different kind of base/glide wax than at near-freeze/melt temps, because it doesn't melt from the passing surface (of the ski or other sliding base). If you're not used to very cold snows, make sure you get a good base wax, the normal stuff will just stick to a warmer-weather base wax. [Arly, this message wasn't for you ;) ]
