I Had to look at the poster of this since it almost sounded like my Conex.

Mine is also a double-ended 40' Hi-Cap with a pair of solar fans for ventilation as I also keep gasoline powered equipment in there as well as my cab tractor.

Looking at my receipt dated 02OCT20 it was $8,915.19 taxed, delivered and placed. This was also a one trip unit.

I have had zero issues with this in the past 5 years, other than wasps insisting on using the lock covers for nests. I currently live 100 miles away from this site and only get up on weekends.

One advantage to a shipping container is that they are not considered to be permanent structures and not taxable as such (at least down here).

We couldn't get it out to this location at this point.

If you have a friend with a skidder, could use that to quickly make some trails.

I remember seeing used skidders up there for sale some definitely cheaper than a lot of newer compact
tractors out there. If I had 80 acres I'd probably buy a smaller one. on a positive side you already have the dozer track to make a trail drag, and what that track might have been used for previously.

So, it looks like this is a haul your own water in off-grid. Would you be able to put in / drive a shallow sand point well with a cistern pump?

What is the lighting inside - gas, 12v or 115v?

My guess is that with each trip, you will "tighten up" the camp and make it better.

I recently did a fairly deep dive into solar and took my house off grid for about $15k. I have 18kw of power available, or about 160a, and 90kwh battery, with 11kw of panels, for around 15k. I can run my well pump, ac, range, electric dryer, pool pump, pretty much anything I want, even charge my EV.

A few points that will cover many comments. This is shelf rock country and the owner said you can't put in a sand point. The road going out is in terrible shape and any work being done out there, will greatly be influenced by that. So the roads improvement potential needs to be investigated before any major updates can be done that require more than a UTV traveling in.

Seems like the road is the big sticking point. Is it possible it will be cost prohibitive to get that road truck capable?

So No county building or state health department inspector could make it down your road anyway. Septic must be in 1st but folks put in sand points on the own. Well drillers are licensed and must get a permit to drill.

One work around here; you get an irrigation well permitted (for your agricultural operation, wink wink), with a power pole, and a 20amp receptacle permitted; 40 amp 240v for well, 2 20amp,120v receptacles; but you pull wire for 200 amp. Once everything is closed out, boom, you wire as you please. Then you can add your camper, camp, whatever, and your diy, unpermitted septic, ect.

Not saying good, bad, or should vs shouldnt; just how people do it.

Ah, remember the old days when you could by some dynamite and make your own gravel?

Good thing to know what's under you before you start trying to pound a sand point.

Camp is off grid might not be feasible to pull power from miles away...

Here with 80 acres not permitting for anything unless you are in town but anything not near a power line is either off grid or you will spend some serious coin pulling power.

You will save some money if you can or have the means to trench it in yourself if I remember the power Co only hooked the line I laid and got myself to power pole and the meter on pole barn. It was legit underground rated cable for service off the pole I bought not a
16 gauge extension chord, lol. I remember the power Co crew being almost ecstatic that I dug an actual trench with my old tp bh and not a garden hoe.

Funny thing about owning something and building or fixing things diy Ill occasionally look back and think good grief how did I do that or that was a lot of hard work hopefully I did it well, Lol. I think you will know what I'm talking about after your big projects you deem necessary are completed on your new property and your sitting around the fire and reminisce about it.

You have some projects ahead and like jjeff said above you will look back and think about how your work has paid off.

One thing to consider. Does it make sense to put up a barnomonium closer to the road instead of upgrading the cabin? Upgrading and maintaining a one mile driveway might get expensive, and it is long way to clear for a weekend at camp in the winter. With a barnominium you will be set for decades, and it will increase the value of the land if you every sell it. Plus, it gives you a place to camp and store your equipment.

My neighbor moved a cabin about 1 mile down a two track, and we had to cut down a dozen trees to get it through some tight spots. You may not have that option from the sounds of it.
