A bit off topic, but have you ever been to Tahquamenon Falls? Looks pretty cool.

I have, it is. When I went there a few years back there was a few pieces of property for sale particularly around whitefish point/ and Newberry.

State sponsored dnr land auctions start next month. Apologize can't get you a legit link.

We might try walk a property near Rousseau over the weekend. The reason we are looking for a 40 acre property with terrain that's reasonably close to here is to create some XC trails and have them open to the public..

Arly, don’t you have enough irons in the fire clearing trails than adding more to the list?

Yes, we have been caring for Boundary Roads Trail's for 10 or so years so its time to let them fly on there own. This new property would be its replacement AND a camp in the woods for us to hang at. Lots less restrictions on trails.

We hoped to look at a location over the weekend but now the temps will be to high for that.

When my dad bought the 100 acre family property, he just seen a "for sale" sign and a phone number. No idea what what it was like

40 acres are going to get boring quick. Not enough area for many trails.

I have 20 acres. I have access to the deer camp east of me that has 240 acres and the west boundary has over 4000 acres of state land.

Some advice. If you want to hunt, do not buy land near state land. People are jerks and will trespass. It has gotten so bad I will not hunt opening week. It is not safe to be out there.

With the wolves decimating the deer in the UP, there should be plenty of places on the market.

Good luck!

You can get plenty of trails on 40 acres if you meander. This is a map of the trails on our 80 acres of hunting land. You could double that if you wanted to.

Half the fun for you will be laying out routes.

Nice! We have a little over 2 miles of trails on our 20 acres. Heck, if you start in the middle, walk out to an edge, make a full lap, then come back to the middle, that's a mile right there. All the side trails, connectors, etc., there might be closer to 3 miles.

Like I said, you will have fun laying out trails. They will naturally have some meander as you pick the path(s) of least resistance. It's also nice to have trails on or near your property boundaries.

I've found Huntstand to be a helpful app in mapping the trails I've created. Sometimes the actual route is slightly different than my dead reckoning thought it was.
