I don't see any reason to spend money on a solar system, or anything else when you are using such a small amount of gasoline. Maybe plan on something for the long term when you move there permanently, but for now, you have everything you need already.

We got 2 offers to plow the parking lot, one for 100 per trip and another for $50. We took the lower one and got good reports from that operation already..

We also brought the deep cycle for the solar battery back with us to have it tested. Seems its over 5 years old and runs down fast..

Solar may or may not make sense, but a lithium battery would get you the convenience of 24/7 power for lights, fridge, microwave, water pump, etc. For that same 1 or 2 hours a day of running a generator you can just charge a battery then have power for the other 22-23 hours without the noise. Modern LiFePO4 batteries are amazing.

Camp gen fuel consumption was about 2.5 gallons in 11 days. Of course we just run it for a few hours in the evening as we change up various battery's and have one extra light in the dinning area.

We are still using the original 40lb propane tank but that's only used for cooking but when we got the place, it was already heavily used. It is connected to a wall heater we plan to light at some point.
Be sure and check your carbon dioxide and smoke detectors. ;)

The solar panel will not charge a lithium battery. At least its not listed as an acceptable battery in the manual. As of now, that deep cell was being charged enough during the day.

A few more pics taken over the weekend, top one was taken as we left Sunday afternoon. We didn't hear it fall, but it was about 75ft tall. The folks who built the storage shed, left stumps inside it, and located it next to another within 6" on the outside. Good planning?

When to Remy Battery store with camps solar battery for a test and it had lost 1/3 of its storage capacity. Purchased new one and its a slightly larger model.

Did you go Lithium or stay with Lead Acid? Lithium is better by pretty much every metric. They are cheap on Amazon. But buying local is cool too. I am sure the guy at the store told you this but is not advisable to to put those two batteries together.

The solar panel system will not charge a lithium battery. We got a slightly larger deep cycle type (lead acid)

I don't have deep knowledge of photo voltaic charging systems, but I gather that you can use lithium batteries with solar if you have the proper controller. It may be a moot point anyway, as it sounds like what have is functional enough for now. That said...

  1. What is the capacity (watts) of your current system?
  2. Is it expandable?
  3. Do you have any future plans for energy delivery/capacity?

Its a low quality 100watt system and for the time being, we'll continue to use it, as is.

Got the 6x6 back from the shop yesterday and preparing 100 things for camp today. Good thing we got the snow wheels on da truck yesterday since its a snowy weekend forecast here. Another good thing about lower temps is the muddy spots get stiff, or even frozen, plus the air is dry. Do wish we had more time to fix things for winter weather.....

And the state bird (mosquitos) all die!

Gee, it been some time since mosquitos were bothersome. Maybe more than 2 months ago.
I just smushed one on the side of the car when I got out at home yesterday. Then noticed another lilac bloom! November 6!

Supposed to get some snow and freezes this weekend. Hopefully that'll kill the mosquitos for the year.

If it ain't broke don't fix it. If and when you upgrade to a better/bigger system with Lithium batteries you can use that lead acid you just bought elsewhere.

We are looking for a firewood person to dump a load for us at the parking lot. Put an ad on FB marketplace this am and did get some nibbles. Seems like lots and lots of guys are in this business..

I'm guessing firewood won't be a problem in the future.
