California Now World's Sixth-Largest Economy

If the state of California were its own country, it would have the sixth-largest economy in the world, ahead of 10th-place Brazil, ninth-place Italy, eighth-place India and, now, seventh-place France. California's economy trails only the United States, China, Japan, Germany, and, barely, the United Kingdom.

The state's economy grew by 4.1% in 2015, well ahead of overall U.S. growth of 2.4% and French growth of 1.1%. According to a report at Bloomberg News, four of the world's 10 largest companies are headquartered in California, including tech heavyweights Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOGL) and Facebook Inc. (NASDAQ: FB).

Too bad its all gonna fall in the ocean when the big one hits.

Seriously, though, there's too many people there for the area to support. Somethings gonna give sooner or later.

All my life people have been counting California out... there were even best selling books like "The Late Great State of California"

The one thing I have experienced is it always comes back stronger.

I do think in part it is in spite of the way it is governed...

There are a few things that really need to be addressed such as water and power...

Mark Perry and others post periodic comparisons of the economies of the various states to national economies. Here's Mark's latest:

Nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there.....again.
And I lived in Santa Barbara. Heaven to some, not to me.

But the economy was great, even then.

I wonder how they are going to solve their water problem?

Hmmm... it looks like nothing (in the USA) compares to Australia. :)

And, no, Austria doesn't count.

Hang on a minute mate...how do we get to be a Major City in your map of Stralya ?????

or an illegal alien.

Actually......the illegals are in all states......our state is estimated at over 250K........hard to count cause they're reluctant to provide much detail for some reason. Calif. does have a lot of illegals......estimated somewhere around 2.5 million.....of course they have a lot more people in general.....38 million vs 7 million here in Washington. They also have more oranges and avacados but we kick their butt in apples. Ironically.......the illegals pick a lot of all three fruits cause that type of labor is below many American workers......even those on welfare and food stamps.

It wouldn't be if they had to work in order to eat. Americans did all that picking during the dust bowl era. I think it's a very bad thing and part of the larger problem in general that any real sense of self pride has died in this country. If you're not willing to work, then I'm not willing to feed or support you. No one ever gave me anything to sit around on my backside because of some silly sense of false pride which is really just laziness.

California has an overabundance of girly men to go along with all the loony lefties too.

My understanding is that the growth is mainly illegals, and welfare recipients. The last statistics I saw showed that the state had 1/8 of the nation's population but 1/3 of the nation's welfare recipients. The working people and many businesses have left or are planning to leave. That includes me. I have not figured a way to get out with my business income that I am retired on and trying to rebuild my shop and house somewhere else.
I do live in a rural part and do not have the liberal politics or the city life restrictions. No cell signal, internet is satellite only (which is lowsy). There are no incorporated cities in my county, and no stop lights for at least 25 miles. The government is lowsy but I like the weather.
