Cadillac of tractors?

Maybe I should reverse the question: Maybe say frame metal thickness (not a typical spec available for comparison, that I know of) is normally 1/4" steel (I do not know if this is the case) ... Are there any brands that use 3/16"? Or 5/16"?

You know, things like that. Materials or specs that aren't normally advertised or compared that make one brand a step above (or below) the others.

Or maybe ___ brand tends to use metal fenders, or a metal hood, whereas all the others use plastic.

Like my utility trailer. All (I think all anyway) utility trailers have fenders (until they rust off!), but the ones on mine are thick enough & welded enough that I can actually stand on them without bending them.

I'm sure such specs vary more by model than by brand. I'm sure my Kubota M9540 (8000#, 90 hp) has a heavier frame than my Kubota B2710 (1700#, 27 hp).

hard to quantify due to metalurgy. thick cheap brittle cast isn't better than thinner robust castings. have seen some 3rd tier machines with much thicker castings, and have seen some pretty bad damage that likely wouldn't have happened if it had not been a low grade of recycled metal.. etc..

Well per this definition you can discount many of the popular (often referred to top tier brands) as the Cadillac of tractors. Many companies like plastic hoods and fenders. My experience has been negative with the plastic on my deere lawn mower. I can't imagine plastic standing up on my tractor.

Well, the plastic hood on my JD 110 has had more than a few rocks bounce off it and has never dented, far superior to steel in that department. Plus, it will never rust.

Same thing for the canopy over my ROPS/FOPS. Plastic and I love it.

Now somewhere along the line is a damage event where steel will hold up better than plastic, but properly engineered plastic has lots of advantages...

Curly Dave,
I agree, the plastic hood is okay by me. I might also mention I have a spare hood and the rops frame work that I removed from my 110 when the cab was installed. Just a heads up in that department.
