In town here we have two bass pro's and the one Cabelas. the only thing I have found cabelas to be cheaper on is SOME reloading supplies. Bullets, Powder, some dies have been cheaper at Cabelas....but as I live quite a way away I only visit them when I am in the area....once every few months at most now....that's ok as I was there every day for quite a while.

My local Cabela's just sent me a flyer on range management....its all about their tractor and implement line. They call it their wildlife and land management catalog.

i thought it funny. I go to Cabela's alot just to look around, but dont shop there much except for their bargain cave. I have purchased 2 handguns their from a buddy that works there....using their friends and family discount days. Otherwise i cant afford the place.

A buddy at work handed me that same flyer - and they have a pretty extensive lineup of attachments.
As far as cost goes, I suspect you'd have to haggle a bit to find out what the cost of their tractors really is.
On an unrelated note - they have great deals on clothing in my size, made of good materials with high quality manufacture that don't look dorky. 38x36 pants & 13-15 sox, which are near impossible to find anywhere else.

I'm wondering who is going to buy a Cabelas tractor. People will probably do a search online before they buy on and see threads on here and find out it is a TYM. Like everything else Cabelas sells the tractors are way over priced. I can't think of one good reason to buy one. If I wanted a green and camo TYM I would buy a TYM and have a vinyl wrap put on it.

There were LL Bean Subarus, Eddie Baur Expeditions and F-150s, Cabelas Superduty Fords and Harley Ford trucks.

But those Subarus, Expeditions, and trucks were sold at Ford dealerships, not at LL Bean or Eddie Bauer.

I suspect that many of us who doubt the wisdom of Cabela's selling tractors are underestimating how much emphasis many people place on appearance. I wouldn't give you 15 cents for a camo paint scheme on a tractor (or anything else), but I'm sure there are some urban cowboys that just HAVE to have a camo tractor.

I read a post once from a guy whose mom needed a riding mower. He did all sorts of research on the various brands and which ones had the best motors, transmissions, decks, etc. He took her to the store to look at them and she said "I want that one. It's the prettiest." So, there ya' go.

I'm sure they will sell some on the looks and some just because people are at the store. I personally don't think I would take them too seriously about being in the ag industry for a long time. Sears tried something like this back in the thirties and it was a flop for them.

If Cabelas wanted to get in to the tractor business, which may not be a bad idea for them, why didn't they just become a TYM dealer instead of selling the own "brand."

I know people that have bought stuff for similar reasons.

Because their customers have no idea what TYM is. Don't know who they are, what they make, how long they have been in business....but cabelas is a known brand to them.

I noticed this and similar threads related to Cabela's Tractors and I thought it would be helpful to lay out all of the information about this topic. Full disclosure, I am a 20-year veteran of the Ag Equipment industry and I currently serve as an advisor to Cabela's Wildlife & Land Management business, which includes amongst other products, compact tractors and tractor implements. The Tractorbynet community has always been a great source of information related to tractors, and the users themselves represent the best of the small tractor enthusiasts. In the interest of getting all of the correct information presented, here are the key facts:

1. The tractors are indeed built by Tong Yang Moolsan at their brand-new Iksan South Korea (South Korea is home to LG, Samsung, Hyundai to name a few prominant brands) manufacturing plant, which is ISO 9001 certified. Probably the cleanest, most well-organized tractor plant I've ever seen, and I've been fortunate to see many; from North America, South America, Western Europe, Eastern Europe and Asia. This plant is second to none in terms of a focus on quality. Cabela's tractors are now offered in 35HP ROPS, Gear and Hydro, 43HP ROPS and CAB, Gear or Hydro and 50HP ROPS and Cab, Gear and Hydro. The 35s all come with one set of rear remotes, the 43 and 50 come with two sets. All ROPS models come with a canopy as standard, the Cab models are fully decked out with heat/AC, audio systems, front and rear wipers, front and rear work lights and even a leather seat with backrest extension, something not typically found in compact tractors. The 35HP has a 4-cylinder Mitsubishi diesel engine and the 43 and 50HP have a 4-cylinder Perkins diesel.

2. All tractor attachments and implements are made by Woods Equipment, and are branded Cabela's by Woods. This includes loaders, backhoes, rotary cutters, totary tillers, finish mowers, grading scrapers, rear blades, box scrapers, post-hole-diggers, stump grinders, landscape rakes, root grapples, snow blowers, pallet forks and bale spears.

3. The tires and wheels are made by Titan, and are offered in R1, R3 and R4.

4. Cabela's services all of the equipment in their state-of-the-art service shops located at every Cabela's Wildlife & Land Management location, either in a facility attached to the main building or within a mile or two of the store. Cabela's has been servicing boats with outboard engines up to 300HP, so they already understand the connection between machinery sales and service. For tractors, they added overhead cranes, high capacity forklifts, new tools, etc., and most important of all, experienced tractor technicians. Cabela's has the capability to perform any repair, including splitting a transmission if needed.

5. Cabela's has done several things to enhance the Tong Yang tractor, including the installation of steel shields mounted in the undercarriage to protect the fuel tank, filters, hoses and other exposed areas of the tractor. Cabela's is known for understanding how their customers use their products, and they believe that taking these extra steps to protect an investment is the right thing to do. You would not believe the grill guard; it is wide, sweeps back to follow the contours of the hood, is retractable and has a wide deflecting plate at the botton to keep things away from the front axle. There is nothing like it out there. Cabela's wanted the tractor to be tough enough to handle anything. As for the camo, there are camo accents on the sides, not a lot, just enough to let everyone know that this is a Cabela's product. The wheel color is an amber. Very nice looking taken together.

6. As for pricing, we all know that list price and final price are two very different things. When sitting down to get an actual quote, the Cabela's equipment prices are far below those of the top two brands, and are highly competitive with all of the others. Considering the Woods implements, Titan Tires & Wheels, enhanced shielding, five year powertrain and three-year full machine warranty--all parts and labor included with no deductible, canopy standard on all ROPS models, Cabela's believes that they offer a lot of value and they back everything up. Cabela's has trademarked the term "Legendary Customer Service," and it is deeply embedded in their culture. The customer IS always right as far as they are concerned.

7. As far as whether offering compact tractor and implements fits the Cabela's brand; consider this. The Rural Lifestyler that buys and uses compact tractors is the very customer that lives the outfoor lifestyle that Cabela's has served for over 50 years. From selling trout flies through the mail during their humble beginnings in Western Nebraska, to having over 50 locations now open in North America, with another 23 under construction, Dick, Mary and Jim Cabela have always had a sense for finding new ways to serve their customers. Though Dick passed away just last month, Mary and Jim are not only still with us, Jim is the Cabela's Chairman of the Board. He was also amongst the first to buy a Cabela's tractor. Pretty amazing stuff when you think about it.

I hope that readers will find this information useful; at least it is an accurate overview of the key facts. Above everything, tractorbynet members want the straight scoop. Anything other than that doesn't serve anyone very well.

Here is a link to the Cabela's Wildlife & Land Management website if anyone is interested. Again, be careful not to confuse list price with selling price.

Will Cabella's service TYM tractors? For example, TYM dealers are spread out pretty thin ... would TYM honor warranty work handled at Cabella's?

/ Cabelas has tractors!!?? #70
I just purchased a Branson tractor. I did all my research , 1-1/2 months solid. My brother owns a TYM and loves it. I was very interested in the TYM. I went to the dealer that sold him his and he was shutting his doors for personal reasons. I asked him about the TYM and he said he stopped selling them 2 years ago. I know I am a newbie at all this tractor stuff but here is the bottom line . CUSTOMER SERVICE. This includes " will my tractor dealer be when I need him". I purchased my branson before I knew cabelas were selling tractors. I went to look at them the other day and they are really nice. Now price is important to me and yes the cabelas tractor is more money. Just as the cabelas guy stated there are more options on these tractors. If I were to add those to my tractor I would have paid the same. If looks were my deciding factor I would buy their tractor. Look at the company that builds the implements. nothing but the best. This was the perfect storm. My opinion is that TYM was struggling in this overloaded tractor market and cabelas took on a one of the best built tractors made and will fill a niche market. And this niche market is huge. My own business is base on this theory. You can't be all things to all people but be the best you can be to the people you can serve. And if you do you will be rewarded. I bet that 10.20,30 years down the road cabelas will be there when others come and go. Good luck cabelas

TSO - Thanks for the question. At present, there is no mechanism in place for Cabela's to perform warranty repair on TYM brand tractors, but Cabela's can perform non-warranty service work on other brands of tractors, just as any dealer might do, provided there was access to service parts. As an example, Cabela's performs service on certain boats and motors that they themselves do not offer.

Camastown - For a newbie, you are pretty sharp. Customer service IS the product, as is stability. Cabela's didn't enter this business on a whim or as an experiment. When they decide to start offering new products, and particularly when they put their name on something, the commitment is forever. They went from trout flies to fishing tackle, firearms and ammo, outdoor apparel for any need, camping equipment, outdoor cooking, game processing equipment, home & cabin furnishings, auto/ATV accessories, ATVs/UTVs, boats....and now compact tractors and implements. We all know that compact tractor owners are made up of outdoorsman; not just those that hunt and fish, but those that think a great weekend is one spent doing hard work, enhancing their land, taking care of their horses, tending to their small farms...working outdoors. That is the Cabela's customer. Thanks for your kind words.

Cabelas may be around for a long time, that doesn't mean their commitment to TYM is long-lasting. Inevitably, when TYM becomes "the brand we used to sell," support for current TYM owners is no longer on the front burner, and Cabelas and TYM will probably be in a damaged business relationship at that point.

I don't think Cabelas chose TYM because they felt TYM is a tractor manufacturer they could be happy to partner with forever. That isn't how businesses make choices. Cabelas would need to sell boatloads of tractors to begin to be a significant driver of TYM's offerings.

TSC started as a mail order tractor parts operation in 1938. Their commitment to a particular brand or product line is not always long-lasting. Same is true of most chain operations. I have never sat on a TYM tractor or shopped in a Cabelas store. I have purchased a few online things from Cabelas. This is just a general observation about how I think this is most likely to go over time.

Yeah, I really only see this working out in the long run, if TYM decides to stop selling tractors under their own name, and instead decides to settle as Cabelas tractor for the future. I don't see room for both of them

I don't wish to rain on anyone's parade, but as consumers we need to keep perspective as taught to us by history.

I understand that folks will want to predict whether or not Cabela's will be successful in this business or whether or not they will continue to have a partnership with Tong Yang Moolsan in five, ten, or twenty years. I'd ask if New Holland will continue buying tractors from LS, or will CaseIH, or will Massey-Ferguson (AGCO) buy tractors from Iseki, or will Mahindra buy their 10 series from Tong Yang forever? Today, Cabela's buys tractors from Tong Yang and implements from Woods Equipment, and tires & wheels from Titan. Those are partnerships that are second to none, and the expectation is that they will be long-lasting and prosperous for Cabela's, their partners and their customers. Cabela's is not TSC, or Sears, or Walmart or like any other retail company. When they get into new business, they do it after careful consideration of the long term implications. I would suggest that tractorbynet members understand that many tractor dealers in fact take on and then drop brands for a variety of reasons, but mostly because they do not achieve success in selling the product, or the manufacturer does not provide adequate support in the way of parts and service. Cabela's will be successful, they will maintain their partnerships, and they will take care of their customers in the same way that they have for 53 years.

That's probably correct globally, but I imagine Cabelas may add a very significant percentage to TYM's sale in North America, and most companies try to grow by breaking the world down to continents and/or individual countries. So I think if Cabelas does OK, TYM might be quite happy with the arrangement for a few years, and by that time they will have increased their market share in the USA, which is probably the key thing for them.

What is Cabella's projected take off the marketshare in this category, and which companies do they expect to be stealing sales from specifically, at those list prices? Obviously, they are using the TYM T353, 433, & 503 ... but it's Cabella's also expecting to add the smaller tractors to the list?

/ Cabelas has tractors!!?? #80
We are all pretty familiar with the compact market, and we all know that final price, not list is what matters. Cabela's is very competitive one promotions are applied. Market share targets and future product offerings are of course both confidential elements on anyone's business plan. However, I can say that smaller and larger tractors, as well as an expansion of the implement lineup is on the horizon.
