Aside from costing more... is there any other downside to CARB compliant equipment?

I'm thinking shorter service life, additional maintenance, unproven technology, hard to get parts???

CARB is the acronym for California Air Resources Board which seems to govern just about anything with a internal combustion motor sold in California.

It also cause us away from Calif. to pay a higher price. The printer charges for the words Known to cause cancer in Calif.

I haven't found any of the "tree hugger" stuff to perform as well. The EPA has such tight restrictions on diesels that in a few years, we will be lucky to even be able to buy one.

I avoid CARB stuff as much as I can.

Since you seem to have places in both CA and WA, buy your equipment in OR, on your way through. No only do you avoid the CARB stuff, you save the sales tax...

Speaking of Diesels... I just heard a Public Service Announcement that their is a new program that will buy your old diesel???

Just read that generally Tier 3 diesels are quite a bit less fuel efficient than earlier models. Another unintended consequence from the environmentalists.

That is not true! I knew a guy in high school that had a Datsun 200sx (it's been a few years ago!) that was CARB compliant. It had the same motor as mine, but had 2 spark plugs per cylinder and seemed to make more power than mine. Of course, there aren't many of those old Datsuns running around any more so I guess it is a mute point:D

:roll eyes:I purchased a small poulan chain saw that had all those stickers. I was leary but thats all they had. it ran likeXXX. I tried to richen up the mixture and the ''screws''' were set in way deep.Used the smallest screwdriver with no luck,
Got the magnifier, and see that it wasn't slotted for a screwdriver.HMM looks like some super small serrated tool is what they use.Well I used a small needle to catch onto the sides of the screw and ticked it a bit. and then ran great.
HMM what i could have done was return it, and they would ship it back to be refurbished where a guy would use the special tool and adjust it and then re-ship it.
All this and people think its saving the environment..

Ask any recent buyer of a 2007-up Diesel p/u what they think of the new EPA regs. A lot of them will tell you that while HP is up, mileage is down considerably due to EGR, and now DPF's...

Emissions are one of the primary reasons we cannot buy a diesel in a light-duty truck in this country either. Who wouldn't want a 1/2 ton 4x4 that'd get 25-30 mpg, and still tow like a small block gasser when needed (besides those who need a HD truck...)?

I do not think CARB helps most of the rest of the US. The smog emission and general smog haze found in LA, and the Sac valley, are more unique to the area.

It certainly does not hurt anything to pollute less.

But, not many area's have the topography and dense population that a couple California cities have.
