My Bx2670 with almost 500hrs starts fine but after maybe 20 minutes, it balks. The RPMs drop way down, and it almost stalls but then comes back up to the previous RPMs. This scenario may repeat itself every few minutes, but it can also go another 20 minutes and run fine. Replaced both fuel filters. Any ideas? Got me stumped.

When it balks, try loosening fuel cap and listen for vacuum sucking sound or see if engine rpms come back.

Sounds like fuel filters. They make bad ones too! Do you use Kubota?

Something in the fuel tank that blocks fuel, then swashes away to repeat again in 20 minutes?

Kubota? Yes.

Thought of that. How do I check for that? Empty the tank and look? How can I empty the tank?

Could also be a bad lift pump. I believe it's a small electric pump on the BX machines.

You need to put an "inspection camera" down into your fuel tank and have a look around. The camera end will have light(s) and should be 'water proof'... I bought mine from my local auto-parts shop.

Whilst at the auto-parts shop, I'd pick up a diesel biocide treatment (or three :)). What you're describing is, in my experience, the first symptom of a biological growth (it'll look like fairy floss [cotton candy] mixed with phlegm :ill:).

Can you hear the fuel pump clicking when you turn the key on?

Yes. This morning I filled her up with fresh diesel and mowed without a hitch for about 5 minutes then the cycle started - bog down, almost quite and then come back up. It came back up faster if I took off the load. This evening the same scenario, worked fine even on a hill for about 10 minutes and then. How much fuel am I supposed to see in the forward filter? It's barely 25% full.

Once again... have you put an inspection camera down into the fuel tank? If so, what did you see?

Simply adding more 'fresh' diesel is not a solution to your problem.

The fuel filter should be full. It either has something in the tank that has been dropped in it or it has algae in it. If not it is sucking air from a connection. When it does it, if you have plastic lines, see if any are trying to collapse.

Check the condition of fuel lines from the tank as well, it may be pinched.
