Backhoe BX25

I have a large urban lot and am looking at a BX 25 to dig water lines and landscape the back yard. Can someone with experience tell me if the BX25 backhoe will dig in hard pan clay? I also have a lot of rocks and some tree roots. It just seems small to dig but I've had some dealers tell me it will with no problem.

I have a BX22 and had no issues diging in hard clay! just have to not bite too much and As for roots I have not had to deal with any more then an inch thick so not sure on the roots! I would say it would depend on the size of them! and think the same would go for big rocks.

I know the BX25 is stronger then my BX22! Hope this help you some!

Ok guess I miss understood what hard pan clay is! look like from what other are saying need something bigger than a BX!

I couldn't touch the local hard pan with the hoe on my BX24. It would barely scrape a scratch into it.

What we call hard pan here is "glacial till", not just hard clay. Harder than Chinese algebra.

I couldnt dig into the hardpan with my BX24 and its nearly 4 ft down. if the water fills the trench over night from high water table, I might be able to scratch out another 2 inch. The teeth on bx bucket is too dull, and I was thinking if I swapped bucket for a root ripper, I may be able to penetrate the hardpan.
