I did a search and got some threads with some opinions, but no definitive answers.
Can someone provide the actual size(s) of all zerks installed on a BX24?
I have one on my FEL I need to replace, and would like to get a set to have on hand in case any others become faulty.

I can't give you the sizes but I do believe they are metric. No standard ones would fit, I had to get them from the dealer. This was for my tractor, the FEL might be the same.

Wow, can't believe that this was such a tough question.

How about it Messicks? Any help? Online ordering perhaps?

I just went down to Harbor Freight and got both the Metric and SAE greeese fitting kits. On the loader for the BXs they are usually SAE fittings. On some of the tractor things and drive shafts they could be Metric, but have not had to replace and yet. The SAE kit has 1/4x28 fittings which is a bolt thread and also 1/8 NPT(pipe thread). There are also 5/16 thread available and some things use these but not as often and not sure about the pedal if it uses the drive in barb fittings like they use on the gauge wheels My cylinder fitting is 1/8 pipe and loader joints look like they are all 1/4x28. The mertic kit does contain 6MM, 8MM, and 10MM fittings but not sure what the pitch is. If you are having this much trouble selecting grease Zerks and you do not have any in your shop supplies to begin with what are you doing with a tractor anyway??

What the !@#$&^ kind of statement is that?! I think that it is a pretty simple question and resent the implication that someone that doesn't have a shop full of spare supplies shouldn't own a tractor. If you were so &^%$ smart you would know what sizes were needed so that I wouldn't have to buy a assortment of items that I will use 5 of and have to spend money on 95 that I will never use.

Well around here they are sold in such small quanities becuase cars don't use them anymore, only heavy equipment and all the mechanics I know have the large assortments that the only way to buy them is in an assortment. The 50 piece assortment is $5.99, my time and gas or postage to go chasing things down are worth more then that. The 32 piece metric is $2.99 right rnow and is still cheaper then th few you get at Napa or the farm store for their inflated prices. If you had the manuals for the tractor you would know that the part number for one of the boom fittings on a BX23 would be 75599-81521 Fitting Grease 1/4-28T.T the BX24 should be similar. If you need the parts breakdown go to Tractorsmart and ask them for it. Asking out here for all the sizes of common parts and then getting upset over the answers will not help you. You should have a parts manual and service manual for your machine if you are going to be working on it.

On a side note about these fittings. Like every other bolt or hydraulic line on my Kubota (which I love), I found many Zerks that were loose and needed tightening

I replaced two on my BX24, one on the backhoe that I ordered fron messicks with filters I ordered. The other was on the bottom pin of the bucket cylinder which was a 1/4-28. I looked them up in the parts catalog and the one on the backhoe did not say what size, but the one on the bucket said 1/4-28 when I looked it up on the web.

The only thing that I got upset about is your implication that I had no business having a tractor if I had to ask the question. It seems to me that your second response had a lot more information, so maybe that would have been the better answer in the first place without the editorial comment.

It is responses like your first that turns people off to these types of forums. Kind of like a "RTFM" response, or "that question has been asked a hundred times, try searching" which usually take more time to type in than just answering the question or just ignoring if you don't have useful information.

Thanks to those that did provide useful info. Sorry for the rant... Long day here...

Right on the money!!

I found a few years back an assortment of grease fitting was something I did well to buy, so bought the SAE size. Then the metric and then some of the drive in ones and now I think I have about as many as TSC here does! :) Still don't always have what I may desire but normally have one that works just fine. If you have any old equipment that has grease fittings you get use to replacing them. Would suggest if you find you use a certain size pick up a tap of that size for sooner or later you will need to at least clean out threads.

I will not digress to the level of some of the previous submissions in this thread.

However, I would like to reduce the level of our grease fitting discussion to that of ... about knee level.

Those of you that have a zerk fitting assortment may want to consider modifying the pivot pin on which the BX24 front axle pivots to allow for lubrication of that critical joint. Kubota greases that joint during assembly, but crossing creeks can cause water to seep into the joint's voids, and heavy use can take a toll on the one part that supports the entire front end of tractor.

The task can make good use of a lathe after the pin is removed. But drilling by hand is not too hard.
