BX23 water pump questions

   / BX23 water pump questions #11
I've had an experience with a waterpump that I replaced and the impeller was plastic and the pump casing was metal. Under load the impeller slipped on the spline. At normal running loads it didn't slip and the temperatures were normal. I would never buy a water pump with a plastic impeller again.

Well, it's back together. Shop made a pretty radiator out of mine! Stat opens fine, 20 + temperature drop across radiator.
Cannot really see water flowing through tiny cap port, but w/ and w/o stat temp drops.
Mower running (no grass) traveling was straight up.
Gonna' have to test it on the field, observe for hose collapse (couldn't find spring that thin). They did create quite a U shape (extra 90s) that looks like it would love to fold up.

THX guys.

HOT day and tall grass means poor cooling conditions. Happens to me with my B7800 and I adjust by slowing down; I'll also take note of wind direction and try to mow into the wind. (and if you run with a bucket, as I do, raise it out of the way of the radiator grill area)

So, situation is BX/54 mower runs right up at orange with tall grass.
Recent work shows clear radiator (in and out), minimal internal rust, etc.
I believe I would NOT trust the water pump next.
I got tractor only a few years old.

Is it likely the original pump was a cast or formed (SS?) impeller?
Long term - should I seek OE or other water pump, formed or cast?
It’s a Kubota. They make some of the best small diesel engines on the planet and then habitually put them into their equipment with a marginal cooling system. My fix was having a radiator made with approximately 3 times the capacity and coarse fins to keep it from plugging.

...and if you are that close to lacking adequate cooling there is something serious wrong !
