BX23
Hi all
I am trying to trade in my BX23 and implements on a new B3000 and rtv1100 (yeah, I'm really into the cabs now!), and I was surprised how little the dealer offered me for it.

The BX23 is a 2005 model with 300 hours on it and is in good shape. Comes with the TLB package, Kubota MMM and leaf bagger, Woods 42" brush mower and a rear blade. The dealer is only offering $9500 for the trade.

This stuff cost over $21K 6 years ago, so I am surprised at 50%+ depreciation in that time. Obviously I am going on the assumption that Kubotas hold their value well and the BX is a very popular model in making the statement about depreciation, but I am open to experience/knowledge from others.

Any help/experience on the value here would be appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

My dealer is offering me 20k for my 09 bx2660 with fel, 60 mmm, front bx2750 snow blower for a b3000 hsdcc with fel and 72 mmm.

I have 230 hrs on it. I too have the cab bug. I think I might seal the deal although I wanted a new truck. Decisions decisions. I would use tractor more though :)

I think that's low. Try Barlows.

OK thanks guys, I will keep scouting...

Why not just advertise it and sell it yourself? If tractor dealers are like car dealers they usually give you low book for your trade.

Absolutely, private sale prices are clearly higher than trade-in prices, but that has always been true.

For me, trading = time saved, and we all know what time =... I don't have much!

I was just really trying to see where people might ballpark my current equipment for trade.

Thanks

Just from what I've seen around here, you shouldn't have a problem getting 12-13 out of it if it's really nice...If it looks hammered, that's another story. Throw us some pictures so we know what you're working with.

I sold my old 2002 BX22 TLB with 60MMM in 2007 (150 hours) for 11K ...
mint shape...

Price might be good on cond..or low if mint...As noted above..show some pics..might have a good trade or not.

What were the final numbers they were offering for the package? Sometimes the "trade value" number doesnt really reflect what you are getting.

Ex. trading off list price makes it look like you are getting a real value on your trade in compared to getting a trade value off a sale price.

sounds like you have a great purchase lined up, cant beat the heat any better than in a cab!

Still negotiating the deal.
Not sure I understand what you are saying re trade price vs sale or list. Are you saying same trade in price vs lower "sale" price is higher % value? I agree.

Other comments re condition are important. The BX was my first tractor so I don't really know what counts for "mint" condition of a machine with 300 hours moving gravel, digging holes and banging over fields, other than obvious cosmetic differences. Being work machines, some paint missing here and there shouldn't matter as much, but the BX is more of a consumer machine, so maybe dealer resale is more effected by the aesthetics.

Will advise, and thanks for the tips guys!

Well, when I jumped ship and went from orange to green, I paid just over 18K for my BX 24 with the 60 MMM, dealer at JD gave me $15k for my 4 year old tractor with about 240 hrs. Oddly enough they also sold it two weeks later so I wonder if I even got a deal, but I thought $3000+ for using the tractor for 4 years was a good deal.

I would try to sell it out right for a while first if you can wait it out.

Also has someone else posted, what they are offering trade versus the end numbers can also add up to a good deal. Kind of the opposite of car dealers, they may give you higher trade in and knock nothing off the price of the new car. It could be a numbers game.

When you trade something, you really never know whether you got a good number on your machine or not...The bottom line is the out the door price on the new one. If you're happy with that, then none of it really matters. Dealer accounting is not easy to explain.

When I traded my last truck, they gave me $4k more than KBB on the new one. I didn't care as long as they hit my final number on the new one (I kept that number to myself), and they did.

KBB is not what dealers use. They have a black book. Dealers love KBB since it is always low or on the low end.

As long as you, the buyer are happier, that is all that matters.

When I trade with Steve Barlow at Barlows and i have several times. First, I tell him I have no interest in buying but if I was interested how much would he have to have for the tractor I'm interested in. He always looks at his computer for his cost, checks for any dealer incentives that have came out and plays with his calculator. He then tells me his price. I always say "Isn't that a bit high or I didn't want a cab on it." And Laugh or holler to Gary that Steves trying to rob me.
I then ask him how he'll trade with me trading in the tractor I bought from him a few months ago. He sits there in his chair and leans back, scratches his dog, spits, gets a far away look in his eye, hollers something to Gary asking if he called somebody, spits, and says "How much did you want for it?" I always say "You know more about the value and what you can sell it for than I do, so....tell me how you'll trade." He's never picked up a book yet. He gets that far away look again, spits, scratches his dog laying there by his chair, reaches for his calculator and tells me how much difference it's going to take to trade. Still no book. Don't think he has one. Don't think he'd trust a book from New York City or Los Angeles over his 30 years of experience selling in Somerset, Ky.:laughing::laughing:
Maybe if he ever moves to LA or NYC he may start using THE BOOK.:D:D:laughing::laughing:

Black Book is auction price, and I agree it's probably higher now...The banks tend to use NADA to assign value though..They generally dont vary enough to have a mispriced vehicle or the dealers would have a bear of a time getting them financed..KBB was more accessable to me at the time.
