Kubota BX23
Hello all. I was filling a hole today and jumped off the seat real quick to grab something and my Kubota BX23 died and now I cannot even turn the key to start it back up. I have checked the safety switch under the seat and it seems to be operating normally. The tractor is sitting on a hill and I'm worried the parking break may not hold until I can get someone to fix it which would cause it to roll down the hill into the hole I was filling which has our septic tank in it. Needless to say I do not want to see that happen. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

You make it sound like the key physically will not move, is that what you meant?

Ok, the safety switches would not do that even if they were bad.

Take a deep breath, step back and be calm. Try working the key a little bit, is there any way your leg brushed against it when you dismounted and pulled it out ever so slightly?

I've tried everything I can think of but the ignition remains stuck. I did grab a tow strap and pulled it to the top of the hill with my Massey Ferguson so at least I don't have to worry about it rolling down the hill. I think I'm going to have to get it serviced. Thanks so much for your replies. If you think of anything let me know. Thanks again.

Hi... still trying to understand the sequence of events...
You got off the tractor to get something and the engine died... that says to me the key was not turned off.
So the key was in the 'run' position and you physically could not turn it to the 'start' position.
If true, were you able to turn the key back to the off position ?
Is it just that it won't turn from the 'run' position to the 'start' position ?
If so... sound like the key switch is kaput.

Pete

Yes, exactly as you described it. Engine died, turned key to off, now cannot turn to start position. It also seems like between off and run position may have slightly less travel now. I will try replacing the key switch, thanks Pete.

Before you replace it, go back one more time, get yourself comfortable in the seat, and wiggle the key back and forth. Kubota ignition locks are not the highest precision instruments and sometimes the key won't quite work. Don't force it, but finesse it. Good luck!

I will try it again before I replace, thanks.
