bx2230 vs. 2210

I am new to the tractor market and need some help. I am trying to decide between a bx2230 and a 2210 tractor. I am going to purchase a package consisting of the tractor, mower, loader, & front mount snow blower. I need the tractor to mantain a 1500' stone driveway and also to mow about 3/4 acre of grass. These tractors seem to have similar specs and both have good local dealerships. The price is very close so I am looking for a reason to choose one over the other. Any recomendations?????

Which color do you like the best?? Is one of the dealers maybe a bit more helpful over the other? Which one do you feel the most comfortable with. Does your butt fit on one of the seats better than the other?

Both tractors are good tractors. You will like either one.

As far as the color, it doesnt matter( I am color blind). Both dealerships are within a 5 miles of each other and both have very good reputations. Both tractors seem comfortable. I am looking for a functionality diffrance between the two. One thing I did notice is the 2210 has a quick detach bucket so I assume JD offers diffrent attachments for the loader arms. I was also concerned about the snowblower hyd. hoses on the 2210 they seem to be unprotected the way there routed.

RE: 2210, You can put forks on the loader.

JD and other 3rd-parties make forks.

Other front-mount attachments like the snow blower, front blade, and broom mount on a different system they call their Quick'tatch.

With the stone driveway, for light snow, you will want either a front or rear blade. Especially in the fall before the stone freezes into place, the blade won;t toss the rocks as far.

Couple thoughts.

The BX Kubota has a very small 3ph. Is the JD 3PH larger? If so, that would be a major plus in my opinion.

I would also lay on the ground and look up and see what is there to be damaged by a stick or rock worst case. I know the BX has a plastic fan that is easily damaged if the right stick comes along.

Consider ground clearance too. The BX really is not as bad as the specs say, at something just over 6 inches, because that is at the axles. There is more clearance under the rest of the tractor...but still not as much as a slightly larger tractor has.

Finally, consider one step larger in tractor size in both colors (and blue too if around). You get more per dollar if you go larger. One step up might give you a standard size 3PH, more ground clearance and a little more loader capacity, among other things. At not a great increase in price.

I agree with Henro about looking at one size larger. I had signed up for a BX2230 and was waiting for the bar tires to come in. While waiting I was reading the Operator's Manual and noticed the 6" ground clearance.

I went back to the dealer and looked underneath the BX very carefully and sure enough there is a fan for the hydrostatic trans. under there that would not last a week at my place.

The next notch up was the B7510HSD with 12" ground clearance and a trans cooler in front of the radiator, no fan underneath. The B7510 also had a tach and some other things I liked a lot better so I paid the dealer another $1,150 and bought the B7510.

For not much more money I got a tractor that is a lot better for what I use it for. I am not saying that you won't be happy with the BX, it is a fine machine and lots of folks are getting great service from them. But, if you spend much time in the woods clearing brush the underbelly of the BX may be a problem.

How is the ground clearance on the 2210? Does the 2210 have the plastic fan issue?

I think the 2210 is like the 4010. There're separate mounting arms for the loader vs. front snow blower. Don't know why JD didn't make a blower that would just hook onto the loader arms the way the bucket does. Maybe the BX is better for this?

The BX and 2210 are probably almost the same for MM mower. This is one advantage the 2210 had over the 4010, a fine adjustment for the mowing height.

I didn't like the ergonomics on the BX. Hated that treadle pedal. Tried a B7510 and didn't like the little reverse pedal nor brakes on the right side either.

I ended up with the JD 4010. It's $300 less than the 2210 and has dual brakes and cruise control the 2210 doesn't have. Bought it with LX4 cutter and 410 loader and toothbar for $13,600. Plan to buy a KK carryall and will put a hitch behind the carryall to have lots of carrying power to toting stuff down the hill to my garden. Bought a chain to use for the top link for the cutter. Will likely buy Pat's quick hitch gizmos for the draft arms.
