Grading BX2200 problem pulling a blade

I have a BX2200 with a 4 foot blade that I want to drag/grade our 100 yard long driveway with. The problem I have is the blade will not dig down but just skips over the top on any compacted dirt/gravel that needs to be redistrubuted. I have seen other tractors that the owners have added weights on the blade cross bar such as concrete blocks. Is this a good idea or will it harm the tractor in the long run?

Adding weight will help as the three point does not have any downforce except for the weight of the implement. After adding weight you might find you are digging too deep and have to lift the three point up a bit.

You should also check to see if you have your toplink adjusted properly. The toplink adjustment controls the angle of the blade in relationship to the ground.

Simple problem, hard compaction + lightweight equipment = many many passes to get it nice.

Or boxblade with the cutters down first, or drag whatever heavy thing you got layin around behind the blade for a few passes to break it up some, I have a nice heavy log i use sometimes.

A friend of mine had the same problem. He tried adding weight but it did not work well. After days of frustration he borrowed my middlebuster and made multiple passes to breakup the crown on the driveway. Then he gradeded the driveway with his backblade and applied an inch or so of crushed stone. The results were execelent. I think the boxblade may be the best solution.
