I have narrowed it down to these. They are the "same" price around here and just can't make up my mind. I am getting it with a FEL and MMM. The JD dealer is pushing the 4010 but I like the size of the 2210/2200 better. I have 2 lots. 1 is lawn, 2 is field both totaling 5 acres. The only reason I am looking at the 4010 is for the field cutting. Will the 2210/2200 cut grass/weeds in a field OK? They are the maxed out price point for me. Any thoughts? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Are you talking about mowing the field with a belly mower or a bush hog?

Take a close look at the horse power of the 4010. Although a slightly bigger tractor, the 2210 has more HP. My reasoning between the two is the 4010 is more suited to loader work where the 2210 is more of a mowing machine.

Sorry - can't comment on the BX as it never came into my research.

MDog,

Can't say much more than you probably already know. The 2210 and the BX2200 are both good tractors, both compare to each other pretty good. The 4010 puts you in another class of tractors. If the 4010 was the same price I personally would be looking at it. (1)It will finish mow just as good as the sub-compacts. (2)It will handle your brush hog better (not talking HP but just more stability). (3)It will handle the FEL much better. (4)Making use of rental attachments will be easier with the 4010. And last but not least if your a big guy like me the 4010 will have much more room for you.

Now you also said that you are maxed out on the funds but can handle any of the above tractors. If you have any interest in the 4010 you have put yourself in another market and my recomendation, unless your set on Kubota or John Deere you could check out some of the other CUT's on the market. In your decision process I am not sure how you got to the three tractors you listed but maybe you could save some money by checking the others out. I saved around $2,000.00 and ended up buying a tractor that I had no intention of checking out. I was originally set on Kubota or John Deere. Kubota had a bad sales person and he could only bad mouth New Holland. I just had to check one out and I ended up buying one because I liked the dealer, I liked the tractor and I definantly like the price. Now don't get me wrong, John Deere and Kubota makes good tractors along with New Holland and you may have already eliminated the others in your process. You haven't listed the area your from in your profile. Some areas as others would say you will find John Deere as being the lowest, in some areas you will find Kubota being the lowest and some areas you will find New Holland being the lowest.

just some ideas and I am not trying to steer you to any brand in particular.

JD 2210 23HP, 17.7HP PTO, 210FEL lift 622lbs, lim cat 1 700lbs.
JD 4010 18.5HP, 14HP PTO, 410FEL lift 882lbs, cat 1 860lbs.
BX2200 22HP, 16.7HP PTO, LA211FEL 460lbs, lim cat 1 680lbs.
BX sub compact smallest, drives like lawn tractor, treadle pedal direction, joystick on loader with smallest lift, lightest, MMM?
2210 sub/mid compact, drives easy, 2 pedal direction, joystick on tractor, MMM?
4010 compact, drive easy but raised hood restricts ground vision immediately ahead, 2 pedal direction, joystick on tractor with largest lift, heaviest, largest tires, MMM?
Any opinions on the MMM?
I like the forward sight lines on the BX and 2210 best.
I like the extra HP on the BX and 2210.
The 4010 has the most ground clearance, most lift front/back, best cat 1 compatability but least HP.
They are all within $250 of each other after rebates.
The next models are out of reach, these are stretching it.
The 2210 is in short supply so I have to decide soon.

I really doubt the 4010 will finish mow as well as the BX and I imagine the same for the 4010 vs 2210 but don't know much about it. If your "field" is smooth and just grass and some weeds it should do fine. If it is weeds, brush etc you need a tractor suited to a brush hog. Both the 2200 and the 2210 can handle small brush hogs such as the KK BX. If brush hogging was a real concern you really need something more like the Kubota 2410--2910 or the JD 4110. I am also impressed with the TC18 from NH. I just like that little thing and it ought to handle a 4 foot brush cutter. J

I will take a look at Blue this weekend.
Now I almost have a rainbow to look at, blue/green/orange.

If your lawn includes hills the smaller JD & Kubota BX will be more stable on the side hills. If you think you will ever want a backhoe, check out the BX22 TLB.

Well the rainbow just got bigger, blue, green, orange, red.
Blue pricing is not competative here but the MF GC2300 has the best price/financing.
Anyone look at the red one?

I wanted to look at the GC2300, none were available in So. California. If you like the dealer it may be the tractor for you. After all MF has been around a long time. It looks good on paper.

MDOG,
I test drove a MF GC2300 and really felt it was well built and handled as well as the Kubota 2200. I have a Kubota 2410 that is 3 years old and wish these subcompact tractors were around then. I live on about 2 acres and if I had to buy again today I would buy a subcompact with MMM and fel. Massey makes great compact tractors. I owned one a few years (MF1230) ago and never had any problems with it. I am thinking about stepping down to a subcompact soon and will give massey serious consideration.
