BX2200
Saw another post on tractor RPMs and didn't want to butt into that post. Since the BX2200 doesn't have a tach, where to you fellow owners set the RPM's when running the MMM or the rear PTO. I've been using the MMM doing the following - turn the handle to full RPM's and then back down just a little so the tractors not wide open. Is this correct or should the MMM be used at WOT? What about the rear PTO? Is there an optional tach available (aftermarket, etc.)?

During the first 50 hours of operation you should not run the engine wide open. I only run it at less then 3/4 throttle for mowing. Remember the BX1800 has the same mower deck (and you probably don't have to run that wide open either). The BX2200 is way overpowered for mowing.

To answer your question, even though there is not a tach the pitch of the engine and the mower deck is a good clue. I adjust the throttle the where the sound of the mower does not bog down when cutting grass. If it seems like it is straining I dial in little more throttle. You can back it way off of wide open throttle and still cut the grass.

sss,

I was at the dealer yesterday, signing the paperwork for my to-be-delivered-tomorrow BX. The mechanic brought out a piston from a JD that was scored on the side. His comments:

1. Keep the air filter/flow clean
2. Make sure the oil hasn't turned color
3. On starting, let the engine warm at moderate speed, without load (until the thermostat needle moves). Once there, run it high enough so you never "bog down".

He did say keep it below MAX for the first 50 hours, but definitely don't be afraid to run the engine. More damage gets inflicted on a straining engine (with bad oil and no way to cool itself...).

FWIW...

Scott, in my opinion you're doing it the right way. My dealer, as well as a Kubota factory service rep, told me to do it that way when I had a B7100 also.
