BX2200 Maintenance

I have two questions for the board........

1- Does anybody have part numbers for oil filter and transmission filter other than Kobota? ex. Fram etc. or is it not recommended to use them. On my Mule 550 the Toyota oil filter was a exact replacement and 2.57 was a lot cheaper than the Kawasaki 10.75.

2- My dealer gave me a container of transmission fluid (Brand name on container NEW HOLLAND), should this be mixed with the fluid that came with the Kobota BX2200? I heard that you should not mix them. The tractor when delivered was low on transmission fluid, so they gave me the New Holland fluid to top it off...

Bob D, there's been so much discussion of these issues already that I'm almost afraid to get involved in this again; however,

1. The BX series is so new that I doubt that you'll be able to find a cross reference to other brands of filters yet. I've been using Fram filters for over 40 years in a variety of equipment and have never had a problem, although there is a web site in which a guy claims to have done his own study by tearing filters apart and he rates the Fram very low. Personally, I'm going to stay with the Kubota filters for awhile, if for no other reason than the remote possibility of a warranty question.

2. Since Kubota manuals no longer list the specifications for UDT and Super UDT hydraulic oil, I'm staying with the Kubota product for the same reason I'm staying with Kubota filters. I figure there's a very good chance that the Kubota UDT and the New Holland fluid are the same; but don't know of any way to find out for sure.

I'm with Bird on this one - I would march in to the dealership tomorrow and say that, for crying out loud, you just spent 10 grand, can't they get you a gallon of GENUINE Kubota Super UDT so you are SURE you are adding the right stuff? The book specifically says not to mix different oils, so I wouldn't.

Ditto to both Bird and Paul the spec is super udt not New Holland. We don't know the exact spec for the super and Kubota of course wants to keep it that way. They sell more product. The New Holland might be a better oil and then again it might not. But you have a brand new tractor and I don't think there is any room for mights---Do you?

Bob, I have a BX2200 and have found the following filters fit the BX, FRAM PH4967, Fram Tough Guard TG4967, Bosch 3311, K&N HP-1003, Purolator Pure One PL14476 all fit the motor. I have not looked as of yet for the tranny filter. There is a study on the WEB which has analyzed filters very thoroughly and have rated the fram filters very low except their Tough Guard series. Personally I would not use the low end FRAM filter. What kind of quality could you really get with a $2.50 filter such as Fram? I personally purchased the Bosch filter for my BX. I did this because the Mobil 1 filters have been rated as the tops at $10.00 each. After comparing the Bosch and Mobil 1 filter side by side it was obvious to me it was the same filter priced at $6.00. The markings and design convinced me that this filter was produced at the same factory with the same design.

As far as mixing hydraulic oils, I would not do this. With all the different formulations on the market, most likely you would be mixing oils of different types. I use super UDT in all my Kubota equipment including the front axles and drive motors for my excavator. I hope that helps. Jon S.

Jon and Bob,

Let me get this straight...you spent over $10,000 on your sub-compact tractor and now you want to nickel and dime the filters? I'm with Bird and the others, why take a chance?

Do you know that different kinds of filters take out different size particles? What if these filters you use/plan to use, which are designed for gasoline engines work differently? I gladly spent $75 at my NH dealer for all items needed for my first 50 hour maintenance. I know that the filters I got were spec'd for my engine and hydraulic system, I have peace of mind that I used the right parts.

Do you want to keep this unit for awhile? Spend the little extra, if any, and get the right filters, your Kubota will thank you for it! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Ive got a Toyota pickup with 400,000 miles. Ive always used the Toyota filter. The truck does not use any oil. Cheaper filters are available, but like Jim says pennys add up.

Remember, filters might fit but the pressure relief valve preset in the filter is not compatable with the motor. Ford filters fit on Porsches but the relief is so low on the Ford filters that the filter is bypassed, so why have it at all. The Porsche runs a 100lbs. oil press. I don't know many Fords that do that.

Yeah, I have a V6 Toyota that bought new in 1990. Started after the break in with synthetic oil. Ive not looked back since. I mainly drive the interstates from Pilot Mountain to Greensboro NC, that is the airport that Im based at. Probably 100 miles round trip.. The old girl keeps going and going. Love those Japanese...shutter to think what will happen when she has to be replaced.
