BX2200 Hour Meter

Just curious, what is the hour meter measuring? Is an hour an hour the engine is running, or an hour at a given RPM (like aircraft engines), like the old tachometer/cable driven hour meters. For example, on an airplane, an hour on the engine is an hour at, say, 2600 RPM. Run faster than that and an hour wall-clock is more than an hour tach-time, and idling would be less than an hour on the meter.

There was a description in my JD manual that basically explains it just as you have with the aircraft hours.

The Operator's Manual for my NH TC25D calls it a 'Proof Meter' which is defined as

Records the hours and portions of hours that your tractor has been operated regardless of engine RPM.

It goes both ways depending on the tractor. On my B7500, the hour meter is "pro-rated" based on RPM. The higher the RPM, the closer to real time it gets. An hour at idle will move the meter less than a tenth or two (of an hour).

What your meter does I don't know.

Patrick, I don't know about the hour meter on the BX either. On my '95 B7100 it was simply a clock that was running any time the key was turned on; regardless of whether the engine was even running, but on my '99 B2710, it works like the aircraft tach you mentioned; have to run it at "PTO" speed for it to register an hour in an hour; registers much less at lower rpm.

patric: as per glueguy and bird, my 2400 is closest to an actual hr, at pto speed but at lesser rpm,it is not exact. not sure how the bx works.

The BX hour meter is just a simple electric hour meter which reads true time and has no correlation to the engine rpm as the tach driven hour meters on it's bigger brothers
