BX1860 question

I haven't got to use my BX 2360 mowing yet, but while plowing snow I can turn it better than my cub cadet gt.The power steering makes a world of difference.

how tight of an area are you talking about? while its not a ZTR mower, It can get into pretty good tight areas. The HST transmission is the key here. It makes it easy to do many turning corrections if needed with a HST pedal without shifting gears. A BX with 48" deck can get in -well 4' gates, between trees, etc. With the BX with a much shorter wheelbase then a CUT, it makes it easier to go in places you thought tractors can't go.

Thanks, gentlemen.

I am moving up from a 2165 Cub Cadet so I'm a little apprehensive I can get a BX around the yard.

I need the FEL and 4WD, so there's no question I'm moving to a compact, my only question is which one.

The layout of my driveway and parking area will probably necessitate a snowblower as well. Plowing is not a good option the way our lot is laid out.

The ROPS will be more of a hindrance to me. I might modify it to hinge so I can fold it down to mow.
I own a metal fab shop so it shouldn't much of a challenge.

With those parameters, you won't have any problems. I went from a JD 425 to a BX for the same reasons as you and liked the BX so much I replaced my 6 year old BX with another BX last year. My son in law is now enjoying my old BX. My 2660 is very maneuverable and the 1860 may even be better.

BX sounds like what you need, however with the rops, you could buy rops for the BX25 and put it on the BX you want. The 4 digit BX's, the rops is shorter but doesnt fold, the 2 digit BX's folds halfway and its taller. If that is not want you want, I'm sure that the "rops police here" will tell you not to modify it. But if you do modify yours, It would be a great thread to post here for those who wants to do the same. ;)

As you likely realize, the 1860 is the "short bed pickup" of the BX line. Kubota managed to cut a couple of inches of the total frame length. This gives the 1860 the most maneuverability of all BXs.

However, in order to fit the same mowing deck under this slightly shorter frame, the 1860, with a mowing deck, requires slightly smaller wheels/tires. But again, this just adds to the smaller turning radius.

The 1860's ROPS pass easily under the garage doors. Not a problem. The ROPS height on the 1860 are not tall for that concern, but passing under low hanging branches remains an issue. Swap them for a folding set of ROPS or customize the stock units if this is a dead stop issue.

I will risk the wrath of the ROPS police. We lowered the ROPS on one of our tractors to fit in one of our barns. It is quite simple for a good welder or fabricator. Since I am neither, we had a friend do it. Common sense will guide you as to what modifications represent a "danger".

I just got a pole saw and trimmed up the trees. Seemed the quickest and easiest thing to do

Unless you're mowing the 13 square feet of grass in the back yard of a townhouse, I can't fathom the maneuverability of a BX...especially an 1860...to be much of a liability when compared to any other lawn tractor. Sure it is heavier and bigger, but the power steering and HST transmission are God-sends when working around trees and flower beds.

I'll word it this way: I have all the normal bends and coves against my house...steps, BBQs, beds, gas meters, chimney's, etc. I get close enough to all those obstacles that I normally don't fire up the push mower...I just spend 1 extra minute with the weed whacker. That is around my house with a ~2,500 sf footprint on 2 acres and grass to the brick on 2 sides.

If you want a FEL, there is no more maneuverable way to get one than with the shorter of the two BX choices...the BX1860. Or find a used BX1500.

1*I am moving up from a 2165 Cub Cadet so I'm a little apprehensive I can get a BX around the yard.
2*I need the FEL and 4WD, so there's no question I'm moving to a compact, my only question is which one.

I own a metal fab shop so it shouldn't be much of a challenge.
1*I replaced a CC GT2554 with a new BX 1500 back in 2007.
The BX1500 identy was changed to BX1850 and most recently to BX1860 .
2*Any of the bx tractors would be great .
3*The ROPS on my BX 23 is much taller than it is on the BX1500.

With those parameters, you won't have any problems.
4*I went from a JD 425 to a BX for the same reasons as you.
I liked the BX so much I replaced my 6 year old BX with another BX last year. My son in law is now enjoying
my old BX.
5*My 2660 is very maneuverable and the 1860 may even be better.

4*I moved from a CC GT 2554 to a new BX1500.
also bought a used BX1500.
5* Your BX2660 is about the same size as my BX23.
The BXI860 and BX1500 being smaller does make them a bit more moneverable.

6*As you likely realize, the 1860 is the "short bed pickup" of the BX line.

6*So is the BX1500 and the BX1850.
7*
8*The BX1500 and BX1850 can be added to this list.
9*The BX1500 and Bx1850 have the same size tires and wheels as the BX1860.
