Went out to do a little spring (hopefully :) ) cleaning on the road today, little snowblowing and pushing with the FEL. Everything operated as normal.

Pulled it back in the shop and when I idled it down all the way, 1350-1390 rpm on the display, the oil light started to flicker. I shut it off, checked the oil level and it was fine. Started it up again, still flickering, bumped the throttle up, and even going up 100-200 rpm, it goes out, so just when I idle all the way down does it dimly flicker.

Outside temp was about 35 degrees and we did get sprinkled on a little bit, maybe something got a wet? Oil was changed last fall at 270hrs and I've got 310 on it now, using Amsoil 5-30 synthetic, same oil I've used since the 50hr oil change. I'm also still running straight #1 diesel since we're just warming up from another freezing winter.

Thoughts?

drag_slick,
The first thing I would do is to remove the sender and put a pressure gauge in it's place. Most engine sending units turn on the light at only a few PSI. Most likely the sender is bad, but the gauge will verify that. With cold oil, you should see a fair anount more than 10 PSI at idle. Anything less than that and I would be worried. You may have a stuck pressure releif valve if the pressure is low.
