BX1800 Freeze Plug-Block Heater Install

   / BX1800 Freeze Plug-Block Heater Install #11
When I got it back, it turns out that they installed a different block heater than the one I gave to them. The new one screws into the block on the right hand side near the starter. There is a plug that you remove with a rather large Allan wrench and the block heater screws in in its place. This is a much easier install than removing the freeze plugs.

That looks identical to the one I had my dealer install in my B2620 last year. When I first saw this thread, honestly, I was wondering why a block heater couldn't be installed on the side of the engine like on my B2620. Well, I guess that answers that question! :)

BTW, the one in my B2620 works really well heating up the engine.

Wish I had known there were two types of block heaters. Just used it for the first time yesterday. Seemed to work just fine. Cold snap tonight so I will turn it on tomorrow and see how long it takes to warm up. Will use IR thermometer to measure temp.

Finally got around to installing the block heater in my BX 1800. I'm not a big engine guy so I was a bit apprehensive about knocking the frost plug out. The install was actually really easy. This particular block heater installs on the front of the engine behind the muffler. Take the 3 bolts out for the muffler and tap the plug out. Push heater in. Turn hex screw to tighten. Reinstall muffler. Refill antifreeze. I attached a few pictures for the TBN archive.

my BX24 came with block heater installed... looks like dealer or factory install.
maybe all units destined for the great white north come with heaters ?
it's installed on the left side of engine block in first frost plug hole... see pic.
