On the way home from work today I'll stop and get a plumber's chain wrench. If the chain links will fit between the filter and case that should do it.

I've had the deck on and off a couple of times already - I just put it back on for the mowing season. And since I just drained all my fluid out I don't want to use the hydraulics to move the deck up and down. Hydraulics and transmission use the same fluid right?

I'll let the forum know how the wrap up wrench or chain link wrench work - I bet I'm not the only one who ran into this with the factory installed filters.

My hydro filter was tight when I replaced it, but it had been replaced once. Let us know how things go.

When I changed the filter on my BX I had to skewer it with a screwdriver to initially turn it.

I ended up removing the mower deck without using the hydraulics to raise and lower. With access from the front I could get two hands on the filter. This let me hold the wrap up wrench straight with one hand while applying torque with the 1/2" breaker bar with the other hand. With a brand new wrench the cloth strap was oil free and able to grip the filter tight enough to turn it (this was tight enough to crush the filter case).

Yes ehenry my next thought (if the pipe chain wrench didn't work) was to drill a hole in the side of the filter to get some long metal object in there to turn with - I heard that trick from an auto mechanic friend. That would have been very messy if one did not drain the oil first. All's well that ends well although for our dealers on the list I would suggest passing on to Kubota to recommend in the manual to change the tranny filter with the MMM off like mentioned above in the thread.

So did I take my $40 chain pipe wrench back? No. You don't return perfectly good tools. Even my wife understands this.

I just reinstalled my deck a few mins ago...not bad at all. Hardest part was attaching the driveshaft.

Never had a filter that I couldn't remove with this.
