Oil & Fuel BX oil change

Hey, ive bin busy, but here goes: the story is: had a little warranty work done and while they had it they did the 50 ser. The bill was not really itemized but here goes:the oil and filters came to around 56.00. was told to pick and deliver was 270.00 -warranty doesn't cover this, the rest was labor which says 289.00. I think i paid for the warranty work. The neighbors that have kubotas said the price sounded like normal. Was disappointed that they didn't check front axle, it was 1 1/2 qt low, so i filled it up. Its hard to complain about typical warranty work! I still love my tractor and yes i still like Messicks.
Warranty work labor should be free. Hope you find out what the $289 is for and let us/me know.

Well, I spent several hours today servicing my (new to me) BX2200. I changed the oil and filter- new Wix filter and Shell 5w40 synthetic oil.

Replaced HST Filter and 2.6 gallons of SUDT2, and cleaned suction strainer. Replaced engine fuel filter, but the fuel tank was almost full, so I couldn't replace the fuel pump filter.

Replaced the air filter to engine hose.
Replaced both upper and lower radiator hoses, and put in new lifetime Peak anti-freeze.

Removed the rear 3 point lift arms and turnbuckles, along with the top link because they serve no purpose to me.

Cleaned and greased the mmm.

Man that was a bunch of work for a 60 year old man, and it doesn't run a bit better, but I sure feel better about it.
I spent less than $200, so I guess I saved over $480 right?

K, changing that filter is easy. Take the top two bolts out of the fan shield and swing it down. Clamp the hose as far back as you can reach with a small vise grip. Change away. I am in the process of my 400 hr. I have decided I am going to move the after pump filter down below so I do not have to pull the engine shroud to do only that. Using a filter tool on a 3/8 drive ratchet and long extension I can remove the oil filter in spite of the shroud being in the way. Those two items are sure a stupid engineering decisions on Kubota's part. Thinking on replacing the two bolts with pins and hairpins also. Next time I change the fuel filters I am installing a valve in the hose from the tank. I am a lot older than you and have to look at ways to make it simpliar and aesy as I do not do well laying on my back and working overhead.

Thanks Seabee. I hadn't thought of trying to clamp the fuel hose upstream of the filter. Next time I have the mmm off, I'll try your suggestion.

Have you ever had occasion to pull the main engine pto shaft? (The shaft between the engine and the transmission.) It has a dust boot on each end, and one of my boots is torn in half. I'm just wondering how big and bad a job that is.

K, haven't had to do that yet. I checked in my shop manual and it does not discuss removing the shaft in either the engine or transaxel sections. When I am under there tomorrow I will see if it is obvious how it comes apart.

I've used a zip-tie or cable-tie or whatever you call them thru the bolt hole to cinch the filter bracket in place. Done this since the first time I changed the filters and discovered this engineering work. ( OK, I got mad and threw the bolt across the yard after the fifth attempt at lining everything up)
Anyways the filters never came loose, just cut the tie and swap the filters. Install new tie. DONE.
I also use the visegrips to pinch off hose. Keep meaning to install a shut off valve before the first filter.
