Pre-backhoe, I'd load it forward with the 3PH (nothing on it) against the rear gate. The FEL bucket rested just forward of the front rail in dump position, wear edge resting on the A-frame. If I carried my box-blade with me, I loaded it first, in front of the tractor. The tractor was tied down with large nylon ratchet straps...this was pre-chain for me.
Post-backhoe, the balance was awful loading forward. Too much weight on the tongue and I had nowhere to rest the FEL bucket. I didn't feel comfortable transporting in the elevated position (as OP pictures). I loaded backward with the BH boom pinned up and rotated all the way to one side. I rested the FEL bucket on top of the rear gate. It traveled OK, but was too much weight for the 3,500# single-axle trailer...at least more than I felt comfortable with.
That's when I got my big trailer. I load it however the heck I want...I can practically turn around on the deck...but am still careful to transport "on the axles". And I use chains.
